Yankee, just as with the 2610, the Case DX24 was also not out yet when I bought my TC24 (2003 model purchased last June), so that was not an option. My Kubota dealer is also a Case IH dealer.
For the apples-to-apples comparison, the NH TC24 is similar to the B2410 from Kubota, not the B2610. So the prices of the B2410 should have been very close to the TC24 prices.
My Kubota dealer might be losing some sales to NH on price simply because I am seeing a lot more small tractors on the NH lot lately where he used to special order the small stuff and specialize in the agricultural market. The Kubota dealer seemed to specialize in the smaller estate size machines and the two dealers seemed to coexist very nicely. I'm guessing that the local Kubota dealer may have been trying to get fat and the NH dealer might have seen an opportunity to move some volume at reasonable profits? It is just a guess. But there is no way that there should have been a $1000 price difference last June from two nearly identical tractors.
