Moving the log CG in by 18" or whatever the depth of the bucket is would make a big difference in the loader's capacity, the tractor's balance and the stress on the front axle. They are all directly related. And it's a lot cheaper than buying whole tractor.
You can estimate the load capacity improvement with some simple geometry. Of course you'll need to count the weight of the QA plate and the thickness of the QA and pallet fork base. But it's still going to be significantly better than bucket forks.
Another option is to use the tractor to pull the logs next to the mill and then roll them up ramps to the mill bed using a winch you mount on the mill.
