Post emissions used tractors.

Moving the log CG in by 18" or whatever the depth of the bucket is would make a big difference in the loader's capacity, the tractor's balance and the stress on the front axle. They are all directly related. And it's a lot cheaper than buying whole tractor.

You can estimate the load capacity improvement with some simple geometry. Of course you'll need to count the weight of the QA plate and the thickness of the QA and pallet fork base. But it's still going to be significantly better than bucket forks.

Another option is to use the tractor to pull the logs next to the mill and then roll them up ramps to the mill bed using a winch you mount on the mill.

A QA is certainly a cheaper option than a tractor but it is not cheap and it also changes the loader geometry as well.

It would involve buying the QA unit and a set of forks. (Of course I'd be buying forks anyway even if I bought another tractor.) But it would also involve modifying my bucket to become QA. That involves a lot of cutting and welding and I can't weld. So that is another pretty big expense. The only other option there is to buy a QA bucket which is around $1000 for a light duty one.

The QA also pushes everything forward a little which would then cut my bucket specs a little and might even decrease the dump angle a little (probably not).

Anyway, a lot to think about.

2013 LS P7010C

Mechanical injected, turbo 4 cyl and a muffler. Hope it is the last tractor I ever buy.

In no way do I want to deal with a post-emissions diesel. I have refused to get a diesel truck. A gasoline HD truck pulls everything I need pulled.

DPF tractors that are run infrequently, started & stopped frequently, and not worked very hard are more prone to problems than non-DPF tractors. They dont get run hot & hard enough to keep the DPF clear.

This. DPF engines need to be kept at temp and worked. Idling and short run/stop cycles will lead to problems.

We're in the same position as the OP. Also looking for a 70-100 JD or KB, and anything pre-emissions is top dollar, beat to death, or both. Can afford to buy, but CANNOT afford to discover all the reasons something got traded.

Thats right. If you buy a diesel truck or tractor today, you better make sure you can run it good and hot/wide open for sustained periods of time or the DPF can clog. It’s something that cannot be easily fixed by the owner.

I just sold my 2010 135HP pre-DPF Kubota. Buyer said he looked at a newer version with a DPF and his mechanic buddy suggested buying mine. Mine had a few less cab comforts, but the DPF on the other one made him buy mine.

The more modern, but pre-DPF tractors (2000-2012) are fetching top dollar and we consider them almost like an investment that holds its’ value.
