Post hole auger

   / Post hole auger #21
Tom,
I can auger three corner holes without moving the tractor with the backhoe. Two holes in a straight line without moving the tractor. I sit posts too big to handle myself with a chain on the loader bucket's side.

Right. That is why I wrote "It is 6 of one, half a dozen of the other, you can do the same with the auger and dig 3 holes with the backhoe.". Sorry if it sounded different.

I am familiar with your posts. I am certainly not going to question that you have everything it takes to get the job done right. Cheers.

Hydraulic side link fixes the side-side problem. ;)

That depends on which side of the hill(slant) one is on especially if trying to dig a post hole to install a post in an existing fence. There are limits of travel in the hyd side links.

The Danuser EP6 is the hydraulic auger drive that we generally sell for tractor applications. If it were mine, i'd order it with an offset skid steer QA mount(same price).
I can offer a discount if you, or another TBN member, purchases a Danuser auger drive with a Danuser auger bit at the same time.
Your tractor should have enough flow to provide great results.

My side links are adjustable to both sides.

But you are right, there ARE limits to most everything. ;)

I bought a Belltec NC-150 with 9" and 15" bits last year. I already had hoses from my rear remote up to the FEL for my grapple rake, so it was no big deal to switch to the Belltec when I wanted. I don't have a backhoe, so that wasn't an option for me. I like being able to push down and reverse. My biggest complaint with the auger has been that I can't see exactly where the auger tip hits the ground. I'm thinking of getting a magnetic trailer hook-up camera to use on the FEL arms when I'm augering.
A longer-range plan is to make an altered quick-attach plate that tilts the auger drive higher...the idea being to make a small cement mixer to go on the end of the auger drive (like a lot of my plans, this one might never happen!).

I went from drilling an 18" hole 4' deep with water soaking and waiting literally for days to having down pressure and drill that same hole dry in less than 2 minutes. Trust me, it makes you a believer real quick. :cool2:

Holy hoses, batman! That is awesome though. I can tell from the pictures that I can't afford that, but very cool!

I have built my own hydraulic post hole digger and use it on severe slopes.

Downside IMO is cost and having enough hydrualics to make the thing work.

Upside is downforce, manueverability.

I have punched holes in slick clay at a 40% incline. Trust me when I say it was the most frustrating, difficult thing I have done on the tractor. If you cannot get the nose of the digger in first, the bigger blades will bounce you of the hillside. Take a drill bit on your drill and tip the wood you are drilling up to 45. Downforce is your only saviour, but also a curse.

I added a hydraulic assist down pressure unit..ordered from Speeco... for about $300.00 complete. Makes drilling hols 1000x's less work.

I am able to use a loader mounted unit, but i already had a 3 point unit, and a hydraulic loader unit was real spendy. This unit adds pressure in the down force only, and freely releases down pressure as soon as i lift the 3 point. I dont have to do anything to release pressure except lift the 3 point.

Some day i hope to swap to a loader mount unit...after i win that darn lottery... 0520111640a.jpg0520111640.jpg0520111639a.jpg0601111506.jpg0601111506a.jpg
