You may want to hire out the post driving. I recently had over 300 cedar posts with 7"-10" tops pounded into my very very rocky pasture. This covered a distance of 200 rod. Unless the post was resting directly on a large rock the posts went in 3 to 4 feet in less then 20 hits. I don't think it was worth me installing the posts myself. Here's what they used.

Those are serious rocks... and a serious post being driven... no question... a PHD wouldn't be able to handle those kinds of rocks, even if hitting one at an angle, regardless of the type of bit it has.

I think you made a wise choice to hire them pounded in!

( I'd get to know some folks in the area and visit with them about how they put in their fences... and what equipment they use... am sure that you would learn about local customs, anyway. )

Thanks for that idea. I have only observed one fellow locally using a PHD and it was a skid steer mounted model. However, I have only recenlty moved here and it would be good to check around. I'll probably hire the job, as it won't likely be worth the investment for the fencing I need to do to purchase the equipment.
