Glenn, thanks for resurrecting this post and reminding me of the countless reasons for my own languishing on Vacillation Island. I think Henro is correct about the 3830's HP/weight ratio over the 3430 in your redefined search. Also think that Kevin is wrong about the MMM not being available for the 3830, but who wants to replace expensive rock busted mower decks anyway. Tres Crows should also look at the SOTs from Wilderness Systems (Tarpon 120 for all purpose paddling fun, diving and fishing) and Perception (Torrent 10.1 for up to Class IV whitewater).

Richard:

I think the best sound in the engine world is the sound of a turbocharger spooled up tight. I want to see that boost gage hovering around 30 psi and the pyrometer going for the upper limits of what the pistons can stand............

I have a '97 350 Ford with a stroker in it that I built courtesy of Gail Banks. I also put on an ATS ball bearing turbo and it absolutely screams, especially through the straight exhaust.

I also have a '99 Western Star with a 3406 E model Cat. It's a 550 horse, 1800 foot pound motor. Has a 156-13 OO on 370 rears. It screams too. Thank god Cat never put a wastegate on the turbo. I don't have one on my stroker either. You just have to be judicial with the throttle.

I'd say that whine is as good as s**, but I won't, almost as good, but not quite!!

First, congratulations!

Second, can you tell us more about your decision process? Why the 3430 and not a larger model? Having taken a medium step between the BX and 2910, and deciding to now take another step, why not a bigger step?

Glenn:

I have to throw in at least 2 more cents worth......

The 5030 will fit in your garage. It fits in mine. The top of the cab is not as high as the rops on a 3710. That was a prime stumbling block for me as I keep the tractor in my shop and the door is 7 feet to the header. Even with the rears spaced out all the way, the wheels clear the sides of a single door with about 4" each side. You don't want to pull in at 20 per, but it will fit. The nice thing about keeping it in the garage is you can wax it and baby it in your spare time, like just after dinner.

glennmac,
Man, that is too bad. I almost made the same mistake for the same reasons but fortunately for me my wonderful wife, while in cahoots with my brother in law, went ahead and bought me a B7500 for a birthday present. Thank God she did. The BX 22 would not have met my needs. The B7500 is perfect.
Go ahead and trade and chock it up to experience. You'll be happy you did.
