Forks are also useful for removing unwanted growths. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Those are pretty cool - I would like to have some in Blue please to match my New Holland. Where did you get the forks?

Just as a note, please try to resize photos to 640 x 480 or smaller before posting as images within a post. Larger pictures distort the formatting in the rest of the posts within the thread, requiring scrolling to read. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Another alternative is to use a link Showing Cool Homemade Versatile Forks

Po' Boy's free pallet forks:

I'm collecting several piles of bricks Dad had stacked in diverse places.
My neighbor noticed and offered some old pallets to stack them on.

The attached photo shows my zero-cost 'pallet forks' that served
to get the pallets home across a quarter mile of rough ground.
Just a couple of 2 x 4's run through the pallets.

I'm going to try loading each pallet with a 10 inch stack of bricks,
and bring them to a single stack of loaded pallets.

I'm having a great time with my 'new' (1980) Yanmar 240. Great toy!

Hi,
Nice design! I need a brush rake and was thinking of modifying what you have done by using 1/2 x 3" up on edge instead of the 2x2's that you have. Also space the "tines" about 8 or 10 inches apart and have at least 6 with a cutting edge welded on top, back from the leading edge 10 inches or so to cut roots as I go. Do your 2x2's project out about 18 inches from the bucket? Or? Would you make them longer/shorter if you had to do it over? Are you happy with the bolt on or would you switch to a clamp on rig? I wonder if I should add replaceable teeth at the cutting angle on the 1/2 x 3?
Thanks in advance, Prentice

Hi,
Great job! What did you use for the 1/2 round at the top connection - pipe? That looks like it could be a real weak spot if I didn't make it beefy enough.

The "half-round" top connection is 3/16" plate that I heated and bent. I also used 3/16" bracket to reinforce it on top. That is pretty much the same design that is used on the JD buckets.

Prentice-Yes, the 2"x2" extend about 18". If I did it again, I might make them 24", but they work pretty well for what I use them for, mostly carrying brush, logs, and downed trees. I like the bolt on method. It is just as quick as a clamp on. I usually just hand tighten the nuts since the force is upward. The advantage is that there are no obstructions in the bucket. I can fill the bucket with short logs, stumps, brush, etc. and dump it with no problem.

Po' Boy's 'free pallet forks' again, just a couple of 2 x 4's run through a pallet.

Here's a photo of them carrying orchard props tied on pallets, to a central stockpile.

I want a set of forks like PaulT's but until I get around to it this is sufficient
for my occasional use.

In-a-pinch these did the trick.

This isn't exactly a set of forks, but it serves the purpose for me.

I just attached a bracket to my carry-all so I can left it with the FEL. Best I can tell, it is limited to acout 800#. I probably won't ever try that much.

I mainly did this so I can lift loads up to the loft in my pole barn. Lumber, snow fence, and other light but bulky stuff I need to get out of the way for a few months.

I have been looking around for a set of forks for my FEL, but being a tight wad, I didn't want to pay for a new unit at over $500. So, I got to thinking, and started looking around for an old forklift. I finally got lucky the other day and found one that had been in a fire, and the owner told me to take what I wanted. So, I took the forks, and the assembly that the forks ride on. After I got home, I cut out the side shift back plate and was left with just the plate the forks ride on. After staring at it for a bit, I realized that it would sit on the quick attach plate as is. All I had to do was add width to assist with hook up. I got all the welding done last night, and will post some pics as soon as I put it together.

Ok, heres some pics before clean up and paint. I uses some steel I had laying around to add width to make it easy to center and hook up. We also added some tubing at the top of the vertical tube with an eye towards making a removable grapple assy.

Looks like a really nice job. That vertical addition will also help to keep the load from falling backward I would think. John
