Little update, I picked up 100' of 1/4" tubing today and it works well with my 1.8gpm pump. I still have not got the reel, the new spray gun yet or finished painting the carrier for that matter. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I gotta get caught up /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif The normal size tubing was 3/8" but I thought that the 1/4 would be easier to keep the pressure more consistant. Pump does not toggle as hard as it did with the short length of 3/8 and it was 10 bucks cheaper. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

One thing I was just thinking about looking at my tank sitting on a slope, Rch set up a scavenging tank to keep the fluid avaliable for the pump and lets you completly drain the main tank. I am considering building one out of pvc or abs. A short length of pipe to keep the pump supplied that sits below the tank??? Dont know yet, any thoughts.

I use a Wylie in El Campo, Texas.

There realy is a good reason to go to the pros. For example, the tip holders they sell each have a small cleanable screen and a clever spring loaded check valve that heeelps line line full, prevents drips, and makes the spray available instantly as soon as you operate the valve.

Line size should be lather than you would think for a spray boom. With small tubing there is lower pressure as you are further from the pump. The nozzles closer to the pump spray more. Uneven coverage. If you put a T in the center of each boom section then you get even more even pressure.

My pump is pto driven, and a regulator is used to dump excess flow and regulate the system pressure. I spray 2,4D and keeping drift down is essential to prevent a lawsuit. The best way to keep drift down is:
1. Spray when weather is right.
2. Use a low drift tip that makes larger droplets.
3. Operate the tip at low pressure to further minimize mist and drip.
4. Keep the boom the correct and minimum distance from the ground.

It is sort of amazing. With my boom at 15 psi I can't see the tinyest amount of drift coming from the spray. The spray patterns overlap so the weed gets it from both sides.

I see this in some of the photos. Great pictures. Share your pictures to help others.

What's the best place to get a 25 gal tank, and pumps? And what's a good price.

Wylie wants $350 for a 25 gal spot sprayer. That just seems a high enough that I ought to be able to make my own for less. I think the pump and tank are the biggest part of the price. I like their tank design, but they don't have a price in the catalog for the tank alone. Emailed to see what they charge, but wondering if there's a cheaper place.

I want to mount a 25 gal tank on a custom bracket behind a large size Scotts (John Deere built) lawn tractor. There is no good mounting deck on the back, but I think I can weld something up that would work. I don't want a trailer, easier to back up, and the 200 lb ballast is useful anyway. Probably would just leave it on all the time. We just want something that we can drive around and spot spray the weeds and fence lines on about six acres.

Should I get the diesel rated tank? I think everything we have used is water based, but maybe there are better materials that we ought to use?

Thanks! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

If I were doing spot spraying only I'd use a 12 volt electric pump on a 15-25 gallon tank. Look at TSC or Northern Equipment.

I use the PTO model because for boom spraying the pressure should be constant and adjustable. This is less important ofr spot spraying.

I just bought a sprayer at TSC and am in the process of adding a TEEJet Valve to isolate the boom in any combination I want.

It has a 3.5 hp Tecumseh engine with a 100 inch folding boom,four roller Hypro Pump + a 40 gallon tank. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

In case anyone is interested, for spot spraying from the back of the lawn tractor, per advice I got here, I ordered one from Northern Tool yesterday. 12V diaphragm pump, 1.8gpm, 16 gal tank, $109.

The quad runners have a hice cargo rack but the mower doesn't have anything like that. I looked at the frame last night and think I've got an idea for a real slick mounting bracket. Should be able to weld up a nice platform to hold it right behind the seat and above the sleeve hitch. Still want to be able to pull things with the sleeve hitch, and have to be able to get at the gas fill.

In our horse pasture, we get a lot of weeds that aren't good for the horses, so we need to spray them and keep the horses out for a few days. It was getting to be way too much trouble with a shoulder-carry 1gal tank sprayer.

Just got my reel for my spray hose yesterday. This is a pic of the 100' 1/4" reinforced tubing. The rack is a 3/8 air hose rack that I cant remember who ??? gave me the idea for. Tubing was 24 and the rack was 17 not having to move the tractor every 30 seconds is not priceless but its nice
