I got most of my boom pole put together today. Pretty close to the normal design. It's made of 2" scrap boiler pipe. I cut the strongback rods from a couple of reel bolts. Its a little taller than standard. The top link attachment is 22" above the lower arm pins. If it flexes too much there I'll add a brace, otherwise I think it'll be pretty stout.

Here's a view of where the braces come together. Instead of fully fitting the ends of the braces to the boom I fit the bottom half, welded that and then beat the top half in close enough to weld. It turned out to look pretty cool.

The strong back rods are not welded yet - I ran out of gas. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif The strong back support is a stub of the 2" pipe flattened to about 1" at the bottom and about 1/2" at the top where the rods will weld on.

Finished! I hooked it up short to a 6km reel of stranded steel I wanted to move. The front of the tractor got pretty light but it wouldn't lift and the boom pole held up fine. I ended up dragging/rolling the (3/4 ton) reel where I wanted. Here is the boom pole at full height with a lighter item attached.

By the way, I took my little gas cylinder to TSC for an exchange. I was able to upgrade to the 40CF size for the difference in purchase price. It worked out pretty good getting the small cylinder when I got my welder and upgrading later with no penalty. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

GuglioLS - Any trouble with a load sliding down your pole on the self adjusting screws? I have a BH90 on my GL3830 and am thinking that with the BH's lift, I'll be able to lift more than with the 723 loader or am I confused? Certainly, I'd have more control of what I was lifting, given the dipper stick...
