posted signs

what type of posted signs do you use on your property? i bought a roll of those yellow paper signs today and plan on going around my property tomorrow to put them up. i'll be using a staple gun. have you noticed any difference in tresspassers before and after putting up the signs? any other tips or suggestions?

We have 40 acres in another area of Louisiana, but within 30 min. We put up posted signs and noticed that the signs fade...that's about it.

That place has been vandalized several times along with robbed. I had previously installed a remote CCTV system and the local sheriff's office has caught all but one of them. Posted signs allow for legal prosecution, but trespassing isn't a big deal and most district attorney's offices won't bother if there hasn't been any cost to the property owner. Good law, but no enforcement.

Try some CCTV signs. Also if you catch a couple and blame it on your video surveillance, word will quickly spread.

Over the years we have posted our private road and property. Had mixed results with signs. Some just faded, some got stolen, some got shot up (before we moved onto the property). I have about 8 private driveway signs on our private dead end road, we are at the end of it. Still get the occasional vehicle, bikes, ATV's coming down lookie looing.
At least it seems to keep some people away. Before we moved onto our place we had someone rip down the old barn for its lumber, cut some of the old cherry trees and lots more. Better to have signs up, at least some people will read and understand what they mean.
I just had a sign made up that says "Notice, end of public road" and will be putting that as well as a couple more private driveway signs up in the next week or so.

If you don't notice our main road curve then you'll end up on our dead end road. People get mad because they are lost and will peel out at our gate trying to turn around. Before there was a gate our cameras would catch people sitting in our driveway looking at all of our stuff.

What's really good is watching the people looking for the ATV park trying to back up a trailer full of ATVs all the way down the road.

One Sat. morning a few trailers full of ATVs and a travel trailer ended up at our gate and decided to drink beer and have a good time. They threw beer cans everywhere on the road and turned their music up while figuring out where they were.

Other mornings we'll wake up to go to work and some drunk person is sleeping in their vehicle parked in the grass next to the gate. We've only had our gate hit once though. Some guy on an ATV nailed it trying to get back on the road off of the pipeline...that was before we fenced all that area.

There were dead end signs, but they were so full of bullet holes that nobody could read them so the parish/county quit putting them in.

We had 2 no trespassing signs that people drove by all the time.

My dad sent me a sign with a picture of a semi-auto handgun that says

"No trespassing, we don't call 911"

no one has come on the property past that sign since that I know of:thumbsup:

I tried the roll type of signs, didn't last but a year or two. Then I tried the plastic ones, they last a little longer but with high wind in very cold weather they break off. Now I've gone to metal ones, they should be ok until they fade from the sun.

It's been my observation that everybody believes that a "No Trespassing" sign applies to everyone but them.

When we moved out to our farm (which had been deserted for about 30 years) we had quite a time with ATVers. Even after I put the fence up that had previously been cut down so they could get to their trails, they were nice enough to cut the fence (again) and let my cows out.

Finally found the culprits and put an end to that (it was young kids with no malice intended; they just didn't know any better. Once they were warned, they quit; no problems in 14 years).

The only other problems I have is hunters wandering around. Again, most intend no harm, but it can still be a bit annoying to be driving around bushhogging and see a stranger with a gun walking through the fields.

I'm sure they just didn't see the signs.
