Posting sketches and CAD drawings

I'm a mechanical design engineer (read: overpaid drafter) by trade...I used AutoCAD for about 10 years, then went to Pro/E and have used that for about 10 years and recently started also using SolidWorks as well. I think you'll find SolidWorks will do everything Pro/E will do and be easier to learn as well. I have used both packages everyday for the past 2 years, and prefer SolidWorks over Pro/E...just my opinion.

SolidWorks offers a student edition for $99/2 year license (includes 3d modeler, Animator, PhotoWorks [rendering], Toolbox [standard fasteners], COSMOSxpress [limited FEA]) They also offer an upgraded student edition that offers full blown COSMOS (FEA, Motion, CFD) for $199/2 years. Here's a link SolidWorks

To be fair, here's a link to PTC website offering the student versions of Pro/E Wildfire 2... Pro/E Student. The prices range from about $190-350.

Let me know if I can be of any help! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The student version I do not know. I will have to ask or make some calls. For $300 and PTC, I would think not, but I could be wrong.

Is not solid works ProE, just updated? I used ProE for only 5 now use UG. ProE was much easier to use but UG has more bells and such. Also UG can do all the motions etc right in the tool.

PTC was doing very well until there stock went the wrong way!

Cosmos is good but like Anysis ,SINDA/G and Nastran.

well, yes and no...SolidWorks was started by a few guys from PTC many many years ago...but SW and Pro are two very different programs and each is very powerful in its own right. SolidWorks is now owned by Dassault Systems (CATIA), so they've got the backing to succeed.

I'm required to use both, and I have many more years on Pro, but prefer SW. If you though Pro was easier to use than UG, you'd love SW!

Mathey:
I appreciate the refreshingly coherient post.
First things first: Your humility is is appreciated.
The guy who started this thread had, in my view, a great idea: to be able to share design documents for the benifit of all users. Having the ability to do 3d solids would be very nice. Having the ability to share simple, transportable 2D CAD dwgs on this site would be a real, simple, doable leap from just pix. Personally, I have interest in doing more than just the 2D stuff and I appreciate your links and comments.
I guess I'm not sure if I have a real point with this reply but it is nice to see more interest in this thread.
Cheers!

The DXF formant in TurboCad says it is a drawing exchange file, not autocad. If you want me to try autocad (DWG), let me know.

This file is from the samples and is supposed to be a bell crank. It is in the DXF format.

Let me know how it turns out....

Try 2.....
Ok, the forum filter restricts file extensions... no idea why(, probably a good reason, I don't run forums). So I am tacking on a .zip. Just rename to the file name without the .zip.

Beat that, Try 3.....
File size is larger that forum filer allowance..... Is only 33k in native format, but 500k in DXF format....

Try 4....
Can you import TCW format? I started to post in the photos section, but that is probably not the right thing to do.... Getting complicated.... I this is a valued feature, perhaps an attempt to convince muhammad should be made for the storage and bandwidth.

Any ideas?

Yep, that's how this pc stuff goes. Try the dxf and the dwg, both @ steves36043@yahoo.com. I'm anxious to try TCAD Designer and hope to get it somehow next week but I have AutoCAD 2002 now would also like to see if your files will load into the freeware app I posted previously.
Cheers! and thanks for the effort.

Oh boy, CATIA joy...I used there CATIA 5 is called enovia. The problem we have is that Catia is more powerful then proE and Boeing, a company we deal with makes us use it..

I was going to go work for PTC and a application eng and said thanks since the drive out east is too far...
