This may seem like a strange question, but is there a trick or method to get paint out of a standard metal paint can without getting it all over the side of the can the groove for the lid etc.

I want to dispense small amounts of paint into my sprayer and half of it ends up on the floor, the can, the rim. Then when I put the lid back on the seal is bad, the lid gets glued to the can. At $30 per quarter I have to find a better way to get the paint out of the can without wasting half of it.

They can send a spaceship to pluto but can't come up with a better paint can design!

Most box stores and paint stores hav a plastic lip that attaches to the can that makes it real easy to pour paint!

As far as getting paint out of the inside rim, I will either punch holes in the rim with a hammer and nail which lets the paint drain back in OR they make a little rubber tool that you run around the rim and it pushes the paint back in.

How about an old chemist's trick for pouring thick acids without spilling. Hold a rod or dowel across the top of the container with about 2 inches sticking out. The liquid will follow the rod right where you want with no splashing.

The clip works great, for the 5 gallon buckets they sell a spout that screws in over the cap. I use them all the time and they work great. When climbing a ladder and painting, I use a coffee can punch two holes up high on the sides and cut a clothes hanger to fit in the holes. Leave the top hook on the hanger and you can hang it on a rung. plus the coffee can has a plastic lid so you dont have to worry about waste.

I may just try some of the suggestions here. In the past, I've rolled up a piece of Kleenex lengthwise so it about the diameter of a cigarette and placed that in the groove of the rim. When finished just pull out and the rim is still nice and clean.

Yes. -- 1/2 or 1" brush in one hand, can in other. Pour, then straighten can enuf to stop pouring while swiping brush across the wet edge and then the inner edge to sqweegy the caught paint back into the can. Then use the brush to pickup the paint in the groove and return it to the can in the same way. Finally, clean the last remanent paint from the groove with paper towel wet with mineral spirits.
