John Deere 3320
I have a 3320 and want to power a homemade log splitter off the three point using the hydraulics of the tractor to run the cylinder. The dealer tells me I need the power beyond kit for $230 plus installation. He wants to pick up the tractor and do the installation at his shop + $150. Now the questions:

1. Do I really need the kit?
2. What is in the kit?
3. Can I get the needed parts less expensively from general hydraulics store?
4. Can a person with normal hydraulics skills install the kit?

Thanks for your help.

A freind of mine used one of the DSCV for the loader and tied the joystick into a position that it would provide hydraulic flow with a rope. He can then stand by the splitter and operate it by the lever on the splitter.

The Power Beyond would be simpler, but I think the front DSCV would work also. I have not had to install a power beyond kit, but I think some of the other TBN members have.

I installed my power beyond kit on my 2520. Only required routing two hoses to the DSCV and installing a plug in the DSCV. (the only problem was having to undo what the instructions listed because fittings could not be installed in the order as listed in the manual.)

The hoses and external fitting could be purchased locally, the only two items I would think you would need directly from JD would be the rear mounting bracket for the hoses, and the internal plug for the DSCV.

Took about an hour to install, only because I had to keep undoing fittings because the instructions were written incorrectly.

1. Do I really need the kit?No, but it's easier and looks better.
2. What is in the kit?Tubing, fittings, a bracket to hold the connection points.
3. Can I get the needed parts less expensively from general hydraulics store?Yes. You'll also need tubing benders and a flaring tool
4. Can a person with normal hydraulics skills install the kit?You won't need hydraulic skills, just comon sense. It only goes together one way.I bought and installed the PowerBeyond kit for my 4310 (to run a splitter) and installation was straight forward once I got the seat off. I felt it was overpriced but it does look "factory" and since I plan on owning the tractor for decades the price will eventually be forgotten.

The biggest gotcha using PB is that while you are using it you will not have 3point functionality. Using the 3rd function would retain the 3 point operation...

Not sure what the difference is, but on my 2520, my 3PT still functions with the power beyond in use.

I am currently running with my grapple bucket control always connected and I still have 3PT functions.

Power beyond vs. rear DSCV outlets:

With PB, when the hose is out, making the outlet available, the rockshaft is no longer in the the circuit...

I am using the power beyond and still have full 3PT raise/lower. (the picture you have for power beyond is what I have, that is the kit I installed)

I do not have rear hydraulics on my machine.
