It's the elect cos responsibility to maintain their right of ways not yours.
1*No reason for you to be billed for their obligation.
2*Stay out of it .
If you take it upon your self and the wires get broken or damaged you will pay big bucks for damaging their equipment.
They can't charge him for their responsibility.
But the minute he takes it upon himself to do it himself he automatically assumes responsibility for the cost of doing it and the expense of repairing any damage his actions may cause.

Just give the power company a call. Now they may take a few days to come out. Leaners are not teh biggest issue they have. Also the new FERC rules say trees get cut wether they are pretty or not.

I think they would want you to call them because they don't want anybody knocking their lines down or getting electrocuted.
You are correct!!Being a electric lineman for the last 30 plus years,I have seen my share of tree butchers that are lucky to be alive after they have contacted one of the powerlines.CALL the power company FIRST.coobie

Down the road from my property, a tree has fallen into the phone and cable lines. The tree has pulled the lines tight. I called the telephone company, cable company, and the city, nobody seems interested. I don't want to have the phone/DSL lines go down because of my wife's business , but no one wants to do anything. It has been like that for almost a year. I have thought of getting out the chain saw, but with my luck I would cause the line to go down and they would find me. The tree appears to still be alive, so it is just a mater of time.

What did the power company say about this.?
It is interesting that I saw the hung trees post pop up on the other sections..

With our recent snow, we had a power outage...
As always when we have an outage, one of us will drive the old logging road power comes up and look for a tree down..
This time we found no trees on the power lines, but 3 hangers..

All 3 will take the power lines down.
All 3 are up a bank that is 10-15 feet above the road. and the hanging connection is 20-25 feet up in the air..

Now the question I have.
I wonder if the power company will preemptively cut them and not charge me or will want us to wait until there is a problem?

what do you think? Is it worth a call?

now to be honest-- I think those hangers will hang there for a while as the trees they are hanging in are bigger and stronger then the hangees....

whatcha think?

True, but we don't know if those trees are within their right of way or easement. If it's outside their easement and they cut the trees, the landowner could be upset. I would contact them and let them know of a potential problem and that removal of the trees is OK with you. I would put a ribbon on the trees if they are safe to get near. We have a 20' easement that we maintain with our own crews or contractors. Should it fall outside of that 20', we would contact the landowner to ensure it is OK to remove the trees.

We are very proactive on preventive maintenance, like most other Coops. Most of the IOU's aren't that proactive, such as Centerpoint or Reliant when Ike came through Galveston & Houston. Had they performed routine right of way tree trimming Houston probably would not have suffered the weeks of outages they did.

All the more reason he needs to contact the Elect. Co.
