The number of cables will be in multiples of 3, as in a 3 phases (phases A, B, and C). Six conductors may be one circuit with 2 conductors per phase; or there’s 2 individual 3 phase circuits on the tower.
If there’s 8 wires, I believe the other 2 wires, which are usually smaller, run on top of the towers, and have smaller insulator connections at the tower, are grounded and are for lightning protection. A shield.
I don’t believe, and others can confirm, that the smaller 2 aren’t any type of neutral line related to any “grounded” transmission systems.
