OK, a couple ways to do this but let try this one: Do a Right mouse click on the "Start" button from the desktop (normally at the button left-hand side of the screen) this will popup a menu, Click on "Explore" from that menu. This will open a window and on the same line as "File, Edit, View, Favorites, click on "Tools", a dropdown menu opens, click on the bottom one "Folder Options..." That will open a popup window, Tabs are listed as General, View, File Types, Offline Files... Click on "File Types". This should list Registered files types, use the scroll down bar on the right of the file types list and see what is listed for "PPS". If you don't see PPS listed, you have to do an extra step, click on "New", this will open a small popup window, type "PPS" (no quotes), then press the "OK" button. THEN the extension should show PPS. Click once to highlight it, then click on the "Change..." button. Yet, another popup window... click to select the "Select the program from a list" and press the "ok" button... (you're close and yes, another window opens ) Hopefully, the viewer will come up as the Recommended Program since it *is* a Microsoft product... if not, look under "Other Programs" for it. Worst case, you'll have to click on the "Browse..." button for (yup, you got it) another window... which will list Program Files (actually folders) Look for the one the viewer is in... if you get stuck at this point... I'll download the program and see where it installs itself (or someone else who's done it can chime in ), you should ba able to click on the program and press OK to close all the open windows. If you get a bad message, you might have to "show" your e-mail program (roughly) about the same thing.

PS. I'm sure there is a much easier way... I just don't go that route

OK, when I get to the Folder Options, Tabs are listed as General, View, File Types, (but I don't have the "Offline Files" tab). Then when I go to the File Types and scroll down, there's:

PPSX Microsoft Power Point Slide Show
PPT Microsoft Power Point Presentation

And when I downloaded the program, I let it put it in the "downloads" folder. But I'm not sure where it "installed" it.

Lets try another thing first, in the e-mail program that you use, go to the one e-mail that has a .PPS attachment and try to do a right mouse click on the pps file. Does that open a window that gives you an option to "Save" the file to the desktop (or someplace you can get back too?). Or can you just save the PPS file from the e-mail program...

Once it saves the file to your computer, find it and double click it and see what happens. (this is to see if the problem is with your e-mail program or your computer). Let me know what happens...

What might have happen is that you got a trial version of PowerPoint, if that's the case, it will need to be un-installed... we'll see.

Ah, ha, right clicked, "saved as" in "My Documents" folder, then double clicked it there and it worked. I knew someone on TBN would know how to make it work. Sorry to be so much trouble and Thank You!

No problem ...But that just means that your e-mail program is not setup just right... You should be able to open those files right from your e-mail program. You can PM if you want to try and fix it (or we can do it out in the open, here)

I was afraid you were going to say that... Your "mail" could be a couple of things... One, is that you go to a website to "pick up" your mail? (something like webmail, Hotmail or Gmail) Or two, there's a button on Internet Explorer that will call up (and run) another program like, Outlook (which I know very little about)... I'm not sure if I'll be able to help but... of the 2 that I said, does either sound correct? (and technically, both can be correct but lets Keep It Simple )

I don't know what I was thinking . . . I'm using Internet Explorer for a browser and Outlook Express for e-mail. And I don't use any of those other places to pick up my e-mail; just my ISP which is centurytel.net.

Yea, I don't know much about Outlook Express (and would like to keep it that way ). One thing you might try (it's a long shot) when you are in your e-mail program and you do a right mouse click on the PPS file to "Save As.."; look for another choise that reads "Open with..." Funny how they are both MS products, you'll think they would work together.

As for not using those "other" programs, you could... when you are out of town, you can still check your home e-mail at this website (top left, click on "Check E-mail" and enter your user/password):

(you can try it at home too... it will look different but if you are away and need to check e-mail, it works).

Dan, I remember seeing that "Open with . . ." somewhere in the past, but I don't have that when I right click an attachment in my e-mail.

And that CenturyTel Portal is my home page, so I'm familiar with that.

And while I know I can check my home e-mail when I'm away from home, so far I've never seen any need to do that; maybe someday.

I'm thinking pretty seriously about buying a new computer in the near future and my wife thinks I should buy a laptop instead of desktop. Personally, I'm not so sure, and I certainly know nothing about this wireless business.
