Power Pruner

One other thing I didn't care for on the Echo unit was how they ran the ignition wires on the outside of the head, just looked like they would get caught on something and cause problems. I don't know this to be a fact but the Sthil dealer said that theirs was shaft driven not cable, which seems better. On the starting issue the Echo did start easier than the Sthil, but the Sthil seems to have more power to it.

Bird, sorry I got your name wrong earlier. The literature on Echo said that 85% of their engine parts are interchangable. And they have a repower program were it looks like you could buy a new bare engine. The Stihl does have a little more power per the literature. 1.5hp. So do all the Echo products use cable driveshafts? I thought I had seen in the literature that they had solid shafts in some of the upper end brushcutters and the power pruner.

If anybody needs some more poison ivy than what ccatfish has, come on over I can "help" you out!!!

Hi Catfish:
If you want to transport your power pruner it takes just a second to remove the saw head and the engine comes off fairly easy and you could shorten up the tool quite a bit. Mine is several years old 7 or 8 I would say and it is driven via a solid drive shaft. I have never had any trouble with the outside wireing and as you saw earlier I do have a few trees here in Northern Maine.
