Power Steering leak

   / Power Steering leak #21
I thought needle nose pliers and a heavy screw driver was a spanner wrench.

Appreciate the tip. You likely saved me a few bucks.

I ended up picking the controller up from the local guy. He is overwelmed with work now due to hurricane irma hitting us here in N GA. I ordered a seal kit and gonna give it a shot myself.

Take your time, I removed the following: glove box, idle lever, idle cover gauges console. The flexible hose can be removed using a adjustable wrench. Here are the steps:
1- Remove glove box
2- remove idler cover (rectangular metal cover by the feet)
3- Remove gauges console (4 screws, set the console on the gas filler without remove the wirring harness)
4- Remove the idle lever.
5- Remove the pipes.
6- Remove the steering column

The steering unit should drop down at this point.
HI SUpersport: I have a Mahindra 4500, and for the second time, I had to remove my HSU. 1. leaking fluid under the steering wheel. Took the HSU to the shop and the shop replaced the seals, remounted the HSU, and again I could not make sharp turns with the tractor, but it will make wide turns. after using the tractor the steering wheel began to become harder to turn, and later will not turn the front wheels at all. I also began to feel a little bump in the steering wheel when turning sharp. Also I began to hears a boil sound coming from the HSU. Ok what turning out is the fluid in the fluid reservoir is getting very hot. Which in the end affect my steering. i replaced the filter in the reservoir, and again no changes in steering. Can you please give me some advice as to why my power steering fluid is getting hot in the reservoir??? AS I have the tractor running, I put my hand on the back side of the power steering pump, and i feel a little wet fluid on the back side of the pump(between the pump and the tractor manifold. I also getting very hot air blowing on my hand while my hand reaching on the back side of the pump. This air is so hot i cannot hold my hand at the back side of the pump long. Could this be a small in my manifold, that is blowing on the pump, making the fluid very very hot??? Please give me any advice....

HI: Supersport. I have a mahindra 4500 2wd. And I have replaced my HSH(steering box under the steering wheel drive shaft) twice. First I had a leak, leaking under the tractor steering wheel, Had shop replace the top seal in the HSU unit. I myself removed the HSU, it was a BEAR to remove: Hardest part getting to the bolts the bolts the power steering lined to the HSU. The best way to do this is. .There are four power steering lines attached to the HSU. To take off the HSU Start from the top bolt, first, and go down taking off bolt to the last bolt. To reinstall the HSU, start from the bottom bolt first, and go up reconnecting all 4 power steering lines. But I need help: after replacing the HSU, and using the tractor a small period of time, I notice my tractor will not make sharp turns, only wide turns. I also notice the tractor steering will become harder to turn and later will not turn the front wheels at all. The steering wheel will go around and around. I again dismounted the HSU again took it back to the shop, and instead of rebuilding the HSU, the Shop sold me they say a brand new HSU. I remounted the new HSU, drove it a little, and I began to notice the same problems, no sharp turns, only wide turns. Also i began to hear a boiling notice, the power steering fluid was over heating for some reason. i was thinking there may be some air in my power steering lines somewhere. Jacked up the tractor off front wheels, fill the power steering reservoir with fluid, turning steering wheel right to left several times with fluid reservoir cap off, still same problem. tractor off front wheel, and front tires still will not turn. Can anyone help me with what is going on with my tractor??????????
