Congratulations Stray and welcome to TBN. Sounds like you got one heck of a deal there. Having just bought my 425 days before that 422 was posted for sale, I was just about sick at missing such a steal. Oh well. I like my 425 very much.
When I was at the factory, I didn't really look at a 422, but I am fairly sure they still use two cylinders for steering. As for why the 422 is not considered a 'commercial' model, I can only think that they have to make a cutoff somewhere in designating which models are commercial and which are residential, and that is the point they chose. I assume that they figured maybe they should have one gasoline engine version with a commercial label, and decided that anything below that should be residential only. Regardless, I wouldn't worry too much about it. The 422 is still a well-built machine. Also, the only PT I got to test before going to Tazewll happened to be a 422 that was being used commercially by a landscaper. He was very happy with his, and was amazed at everything it could do. I'm sure that you will be equally happy with yours. Happy tractoring!
