I would like to know how the stump grinder works. Did it have reasonable speed? How often do you have to sharpen your blade and do you do it yourself? I was thinking removable mesh, perhaps with exhaust clamps or even bungee cords. Scratched plastic annoys me. I think hobby wire would even work if you had safety glasses on. (welcome to TBN, it is nice to have a fellow Power Trac owner)

the stump grinder for the 400 series is not for commercial consumption, but if you have the time it is good enough for home and farm use. i will have to follow charlie and buy an upgraded series machine to get something stronger in the near future.

i never had to sharpen the cutting edges, this after 40 hrs of machine time on the grinder; just had a problem with the hyd. seal.
pt was very good to send me a replacement unit over night

thier tech. support is great ...Thanks DAN & TERRY

Funny you should mention that high lift buckt. That's the second thing that caught my eye /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif.

Hans & Richard. Since I haven't yet done anything to quiet my 1845, I have been wearing earplugs. I ordered a forestry setup for chainsawing, however, with a hard hat, ear muffs and mesh face screen. It will be hot in Summer, but I hope bearable, and a reasonable substitute for a shield across the ROPS. You all may have tried them before, but it is a first for me. I'll let you know how it works.

Re: Power Trac PT425 4n1

Charlie,
Thanks, I hadn't seen that one yet. Advantage Mini Loader that looks pretty beefy. A lot of other attachments there as well. The Advantage looks like a pretty nice machine, but I'm guessing it's a lot more expensive that the PTs. Anyway, I'm starting to think my money may be better spent on a brush mower than on a 4in1 at this point. I've got a little drainage issue on the new place that can be fixed by clearing some brush and trash and doing a little grading. Hope it doesn't back up into my new basement before I get the PT/w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif. The house is almost ready - moving on Saturday. I told blurrybil I would post some pics on his "Ultimate Project" thread thread later this week. Anybody want to come down to So MD and help with the move.../w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif?

BTW, I too think we should have our own Power Trac category. There may not be many owners yet, but it sounds like a few (like me) are almost there, and we certainly do make a lot of posts. This thread and the customizations thread are usually in the "hot topics" on the home page. And after that, maybe we could get some TBN hats with a PT on them....

Good luck on the move, hope the weather holds for you.
I agree with you regarding the PT group, we are growing.

Has anyone used there stump grinder to dig a small trench? How did it work?

the closest to that was to remove thorny bushes on a hillside of a walmart property. these plans were planted in a row and the frost killed them and they in turn tried to kill my hands.
so we ran a small (10 inches deep)kind of trench below each row. that worked fine than we used the grappler bucket to remove the wooden debris. the grappler is so far my second best investment in the pt implements area. the forks are the best in my opinion.

Richard and Charlie, i think that the wiremesh solution across the ropes is probably the best solution. especially since charlie mentioned the summer time it is going to get hot under all that chainsaw gear. the helmet and safety glasses are a must, which i not always adhere to. my head has kissed the rops a few times so far.

well that is the life of a statewide power trac test pilot

Re: Power Trac PT425 4n1

MossRoad, when are you going to get that mower of yours out of the shed? Here in Northern VA, I mowed last weekend. When you do, can you take up-close pictures of the mower, both front and back. I’m really curious to see how it’s made and learn what you think of it.

In one of your reply’s to a post I made, you suggested I may want to travel down to the factory and take a tour since I live relatively close. I intend to do that when I get time. If so, maybe I will get a better digital camera (I have 2 but the are both crappy) and take some pictures if they will allow it.
