Hey, I know Moss is just itching to spin up that mower. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif I’m just trying to give him an excuse to get going earlier than planned.

Re: Power Trac PT425 4n1

Well I might have put a curse on myself today. I put the snowplow behind the machine and backed it into the garage with the bucket on. That may only be a partial curse, as the bucket can be used to remove snow. If I'd have put the mower deck on, we'd have had snow tomorrow for sure /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif. I raked up a pile of gravel covered snow at the end of the driveway today. The grass isn't starting to grow yet.

I'll be glad to take some front, side and under pictures of the mower deck and the brush hog as soon as I get them out.

Today, I used the small bucket to bring up some dirt that I had stockpiled from my parking place project and used it to build up a flat flower bed. It is now a nice mounded one. Sure beats a wheel barrow.

Then I used the forks to move a skid of old metal kitchen cabinets out to the road with a FREE sign, hoping someone would take them. No takers today, so I brought them back this evening. Those forks sure are handy.

I agree, Power Trac should have it's own category on this forum. I think there is enough interest to warrant it.

Re: Power Trac with at least 15 GPM

Rotary Tree & Brush Saw (found in the farm show vol. 26 no. 2002)

Too bad but us 400 pt series guys don't qualify, we need at least 15 GPM. Well on day this fall that should be my first attachment when we purchase our 1800 series machine.

I am tired backing up with my kubota b series machine and rough cut mower into the larger multyflora bushes; or raise my 48 inch rough mower on our pt425 (that is dangerous, chips and once a loose blade are flying all over the place.

So you pt1845and up users like charlie, this is the easter 2002 best buy. price is around $1600.00, plus shipping. manuf.: leroy hicks, hicks fabrication, 4749 se 61st, berryton, kan. 66409, tel 785-862-8603.

leroy will work with us in using pt quick attach plates but states that 15-40 gpm is the best pressure range. the article further mentions: "the cutting blade is made from1/2 inch steel plate, cut into a 28 inch diameter circle, hicks cut 12 equally spaced notch around the outer edge of steelplate where he mounted replaceable carbide steel cutting teeth.

.... a hydraulic motor, requiring a minimum flow rate of 15 gal. per min, turns the blade .... at 2,500 psi.
... hicks built the cutter to fit the mounting brackets on most skid loaders. or, with a hydroslide adapter, it can mount on a tractor's 3-pt. hitch."

according to the article:"it cuts faster than most of the push-type cutters ....it will cut trough a 12 in tree in one pass. i've cut (says leroy hicks) trees with trunk diameters up to 3 feet.

... it will cut through soil and even rocks in order to cut trees off below the soil surface. with this cutter blade you can angle and grind the stump out with it.""

the pt400 series stump grinder did that too in the past but they discontinued that option for safety reasons (according to chris, head of sales at pt)

other machines out there on the market are in the $2000.00 and way above price range .... these " other brush and tree cutters work by pushing a triangular serrated cutting blade through the trunk".

"because of the way the saw is made, individual teeth can be replaced as needed".

They got rid of the stump grinder, I hope not!

Re: Power Trac with at least 15 GPM

they still have the stump grinder .... working vertically, what i am talking about is the ability to cut horizontally is for safety reasons no longer available

Re: Power Trac with at least 15 GPM

Thanks, that was one option I was hoping to try out at the factory!

Re: Power Trac with at least 15 GPM

I imagine the safety reaason for eliminating the horizontal operation of the stump grinder is a tree falling on someone, yes?

Re: Power Trac with at least 15 GPM

no debris fling every which way, endangering the operator
