Re: Power Trac 425

I've been lurking in the shadows reading all the current threads on PT's. You guys have really provided a wealth of information. I have decided to get a PT 422 or 425, now I'm contemplating attachments (and saving up the purchase price). I would be very interested in hearing from anyone experienced with the PT box scraper. I intend to use my PT to, among other things, build and maintain trails in rugged terrain. My idea is to use the small bucket, with teeth, to build the rough trail and then the box scraper to finish it. Any comments would be appreciated.

Re: Power Trac 425

See if you can drive one before you buy, just to make sure you are OK with it.

My small bucket with teeth works great for tearing up hard soil. Also, the forks are well worth the reasonable price. You can use them to pop out roots and rocks, as well as conventional fork work. The 4' brush hog works great so far. I'll be testing the 60" finish mower within the next two weeks, but from comments of other PT owners, it will probably work great.

I don't have the box scraper, but I would be eager to hear from others. I have a large 6' box scraper that I will put on it just to play around, but I am relatively sure it will be way too big. We'll see some day.

Re: Power Trac PT425 4n1

Thanks. Move went well and the rain held off until Sat. night. I posted some pics over on the Projects forum under blurrybill's <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.tractorbynet.com/cgi-bin/compact/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=projects&Number=122262&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=>"Our ultimate project"</A> thread. I know too much pride is generally a bad thing, but we're pretty proud of the way the house turned out none the less.

I found out about this stuff called "Slime"; it green, so some call it green slime. I saw a demo where they had the slime in an ATV tire and ran over a board with 6 or more nails in it. You'd see some green come out but then the slime plugged the holes. Really impressive. Its recommended for ATV and mowers and such. It runs around 8 bucks a bottle (at Auto Zone) and I needed a bottle per tire for my ATV .....now i just have to put it in.

Bubenberg also mentioned using "Slime", in his Power Trac 425. He swears by it. I think it's at least 12 plus dollars per tire on mine. Let us know how much of a problem it is to get into the tire.

SEARS has this product for sale in the lawn and garden section. It runs around 8 dollars which will do one tire. They also have this in a large pressure driven container they use to fill tires on lawn tractors when you purchase a maintenance agreement. Also for 29.99 without the contract. Keeps tires from going flat and does a great job.

Re: Power Trac Dreaming

I can verify Green Slime's effectiveness. I mowed an overgrown area with the brush hog on a PT422. After a couple of days I went to use it again and had a single flat tire. Checked it out and I had multiple punctures by thorn needles from several small scrub trees I chewed up. Each thorn was about 1/16" or so in diameter at the largest end, tapering down to a fine (ouch!) point over 2-3 inches.

The slime is simple to put in. Jack up the back end of the PT, remove the valve inside the stem, place the supplied tube over the valve stem, and squeeze. (The slime flows fairly freely in warm temperatures.) Refill tire with air. Takes about 5 minutes, tops. I used one large bottle (16 ozs., I think). They recommend driving the vehicle for a period of time to spread the slime and seal all the leaks.

So far, its holding pressure rock steady more than 6 months.

Re: Power Trac Dreaming

Charlie,
The instructions are just like Brent said; but I'd be glad to fill you in as to how it goes for me. I have one tire with a slow leak, but plan to do the other three tires while i'm at it. You'd have 8 tires to do on your 1845!!! Can you get to the inside tires valve purty easy?
I'm looking forward to seeing a 1845 at the factory ...but its a little out of my price range. .....okay, its alot out of my price range, but theres no harm in lookin.

Grey:
I didn't get the duals. My 1845 has turfs all around. Based on recommendations so far, looks like I'll be looking at how much slime I need and where I can get the best deal.
