If I decide to do the 2" receiver, I will get several diffferent stems with different size hitch balls, as well as one with a pintel hook. There are probably several other attachments that could be adapted to the 2" system as well, such as a winch mentioned before. I think a large ring for attaching a chain or cable to, and a hitch similar to the pin type one on the back of the unit would be handy as well.

I will follow your example as this has items that will fit my needs. In an earlier note, you mentioned about the skinney bucket. After looking at my needs (aboretum) and your link to the picture I can not think of a better implement. Your correct, a smaller version would be perfect for the 425. When you start on that project please keep us informed. I would be interested in purchasing from you if you elect to build. Your doing a great job with ideas.

There was a thread a while back where Mark Chalkley was looking for a combination insert to go in the 2" receiver on his EF. The thread is Mr. Tow It All
Kiphorn posted a picture of a "cushioned 6-way Multi Hitch", from Cabelas.com.
It has the three major ball sizes and a pin/pintle clevis. I ordered one which arrived yesterday, but I have not even taken it out of the box. Too many toys, too little time.

Thanks for the information on the thread, will look it up.
What plans do you have for any modifications or adds?

Great except for the too little time part and the part where the bills come.

Paul:

My only definite modification will be addition of a 2" receiver hitch on the back of the machine. It comes with a fairly stout pin hitch, but welded to the back. I want to be able to swap various types of hitches and attach other implements, so I will adapt a 2" Reese hitch from an old junked car. That way I will have a permanent 2" receiver in back and a removable 2" receiver for the front.
Not immediate, but possible, is replacement of the auxiliary PTO valve with a solenoid operated valve, with rocker button on the joystick. The purpose is to make it easy to open and close the 4-N-1 bucket while also raising, lowering or rolling it. I don't yet have the bucket, however, and don't yet know whether the separate lever for opening and closing will be enough of a problem to justify the change. (The change doesn't really need justification, since it's fun to tinker, but I may at some point need to do some real work with the machine, such as mowing, and have little time for tinkering.)

I know exactly what you are talking about. They have one at tractor supply with out the pintel for 29.95.

I was thinking of a way to make a 2" receiver tube that could be held on by the pin type hitch in the back. That way I wouldn't have to weld anything onto the unit itself. I think If I could make some sort of heavy duty tee like this (see attached). This is a top view. The pin hole is towards the unit and the bottom of the tee is where you would slide in your hitch adapter. The little feet on each end of the top of the tee would be to keep the thing from rocking left and right. The triangle is for strength and the holes in the triangles could be used for safety chains. What do you think?

I'll keep all informed. Do you have any welding experience? It is a nice thing to learn. I took a few classes at the local techinical college 15 years ago. I bought a set of torches and a small arc welder back then, as well. They are pretty handy for small repairs and not that expensive. However, you should take a few classes to learn the safety aspects and to learn good technique.
