So I am thinking abou trying Pramitol soil sterilant

PRAMITOL 25E HERBICIDE RESIDUAL WEED KILLER (4 GAL) Full Case! - $155.60 : KeystonePestSolutions.com, ~ Lawn, Garden & Deer Food Plot Pest Control Products

But the keep it twice the dripline distance from trees you don't want to kill seems to rule it out for me.

Also concerned about groundwater and my well recharge then spraying on the garden.

But I am not sure that my 24D / 41% glyphosphate would actually be considered "good" for the environment either.

Experience with trying to keep grass etc. out of a gravel drive surrounded by trees that you wish to keep alive appreciated. Experience with the Pramitol product in particular would be great.

I have to say . I used it on baseball field last year with poor results. It sure didn't sterilize the soil on the B B field. Had to go back to spraying 41% glyphoshhate. IMO not worth the $

How long is the drive? I have a big paver patio that sprouts weeds all summer. I usually use glyphosate, but I also have used my weed burning torch a couple of times. Seems to me that the weeds stay gone about as long with the torch as with the glyphosate, but with a really long drive the torch might be a pain.... unless you put together a burner as wide as your drive that you could attach to your tractor! WooWoo! I can see it now. Run that baby at night and light up the neighborhood!

Does that season long Roundup work at all...or was that some other herbicide?

Beware aiming a torch at pavers. It can cause pieces to flake off if you stay in any one spot too long. I did it once by accident on a sidewalk.

I've used Roundup Extend with good results.... but it is pricey as you have to mix several ounces per gallon.

Isn't roundup extend 41% glyphosate ?? I found a product at Lowe's (product name) Ultra Kill 41% glyphosate alot cheaper than Roundup

Glyphosate only kills what is actively growing. What sprouts the day after you spray will grow unimpeded. I'm surprised that Pramitol had bad results. We had a 22 acre field custom sprayed-the contractor ran out of material and had to reload- he accidentally mixed Pramitol in the load for the last 7 acres. The field peas sprouted and died, so we planted soybeans. They grew to about an inch and a half and died. That fall, we seeded wheat. It grew poorly in patches and we ended up tilling it under(it was on a slightly rolling hill, so we were trying to get something on the ground for erosion control). A local paver buys Pramitol to put down before paving to control grow-throughs in driveways. It seems to work for him.

Regular Roundup is but the Roundup Extended Control is another product. Label says 1% glyphosate and 2% "perlargonic acid and related fatty acids" along with .017% "Imazapic, ammonium salt".

When you put it down you don't just spray the plants but wet every inch of soil. If it rains you may need to re-apply. I've used this on some of my bark covered berms etc. and it seems to work pretty well for the summer.

For just glyphosate I buy the generic stuff.

Anybody use Roundup QuikPro?

I've had good results with it , but I've never tried Roundup Extended Control.

I confused the extended control ( what u r using) with roundup super concentrate. Regular roundup is less than 41%. Roundup super concentrate is 41% at about $40.00 per QT.

Alan,
I have used Pramitol 25E for several years. For the best results, I cut the grass and then spray. One spray a year is all that is needed. I don't know anything about using it around trees.

I tried Pramitol twice in the past two years didn't have good results. Even mixed it sronger than recomended. This year I tried an Ortho product don't remember the specific name sprayed it back in May nothing has grew back and it stayed were I sprayed it.

I quit using it a few years back. I used to use it around our grain bins, barns roadsides around posts etc. It seemed to move on us leeching out into the field so we just use round up now a couple times a year. I always got a good kill with it though.

You just need to visit these folks...they make great products:

I had not really thought about flaming them. I do have a chinese knockoff of a weed dragon though, so that might be a way to go, and it would be a bit more natural then to keep dumping the glyphosphate etc.

I have about 200 yards of drive / parking I want to keep gravel. Sometimes I think the dang grass grows better in my gravel then it does in my yard.

Might just try flaming it a bit, the only fear would be if it ever got out of control, the fire would do a lot more immediate damage then a whole lot of glyphospate. Have to be real careful in that application.

You've been kind of dry back there in East Tennessee haven't you? It's been so wet here in Missouri that I probably couldn't burn a field if I tried, but most of my grass problem in the drive is down the middle anyway. You may have the same Chinese weed burner I have, from Harbor Freight? I often burn the weeds in my patio to ashes, but it kills them just to fairly quickly pass the flame over them. I'm always surprised how far a tank of propane goes with that thing, since it throws a heck of a flame. I drag the tank along with an old discarded luggage carrier. Easy to do on the patio and down the drive, but not so nice in the garden.

Same torch, it was recalled too I think, something about the hose, then they wanted my receipt???? Anyway, I still have it.

We seem to go from soaking wet to bone dry but I am sure with a little care we could do it. My gravel kind of peters out on the edges, and I want to keep the grass beat back there, probably just try it and soak along behind myself with a hose or something or just keep hosing it with the glyphosphate.

I would hate to do the Pramitol and have my large trees die out on me.

I've used my torch mainly on the patio and along some fence around the garden. It does seem to keep the tall stuff down about as well as the glyphosate, and wind is less of a problem with it. I killed the grass in my drive once this summer with glyphosate, but it's nice and green again. Time I put down more gravel. I need to get my box blade out and knock down the crown before I get the gravel. I may soak it real good with glyphosate before I do that so it comes back a bit slower. I've got a friend whose wife really likes the look of two tracks with grass in the middle...maybe we should try to develop that view?

Reminds me of my Grandparent's farm... I like the grass down the middle.

My other Grandparent's home in the city had a driveway set up the same way... looked great and went with the style of there 1920's home. They had 2 cement strips for the tires to drive on.

I had an uncle with one of those two concrete strip drives. My drive is more like two deep ruts with a grass covered hump down the middle right now. The grass in the middle got so high recently I had to mow it. Never had that problem before this particularly wet summer.
