So I saw this ballast on Craigslist.

The seller says it is 600 pounds. My tractor probably need 1000-1200 pounds back there. What do ya'll think about encasing this ballast in concrete to get it up to 1100 or so pounds? Could I make it thick enough to not crack and break apart?

You could always weld some pieces to it on the back for your concrete to be supported by and give it a good anchor point.

What I did once to add weight is go to the local metal recycler and buy lead ingots. Not expensive, very dense, easy to bolt on and handle.

Hmmm, interesting! I might try that.

The guy is asking $175 for the ballast, I think I could get him down to $150. I like the compactness and how the weight is carried low.
