Prepainted Cedar clapboards

Myhouse which is 23 years old has 4" cedar clapboards that were installed incorrectly-smooth side out, with less tbhan a 1/4" of overlap and 7d. galvanized box nails. In the last 23 years It was stained at least twice by myself (using oil based Cabots) and two years ago I had it done using Benjamin Moore Solid acrylic stain. Looks like **** now plus I have a significant number of split boards. Contractor who did it flew the coop!

I'm thinking of biting the bullet, renting a boom lift for a month and redoing the entire house using prestained (both sides) cedar clapboards. Expensive- but so is residing then paying someone to restain.

anyone have any opinions?

I have to rent a boom to do my prow and the best stain that I've found after trying others is Sikkens 1 @ 23.

3 coats and it has lasted good for 3 years now. (house faces east)

At a prior residence I had vinyl shakes on a portion of the house. Looked nice and was very easy to clean. Spray with a colorox water mixture and wash off with a hose. They come in all colors. VinylShake.com - The beautiful look of cedar without all the maintenance
