Another thought, look into no-till gardening, there are benefits over a tilled garden. I won't say it is less work, just a different approach.

I have a similar planting area. Great soil, but too many rocks (softball size) to think rototiller. Keep hearing about no-till, would be best for me, but seems $6K is minimum entry price even for used. Some places the government or COOPs share out the equipment. Haven't seen those opportunities around me. Ideas?
