I occasionally make up hoses for various purposes, and although I rarely have a problem with them, some of the ones using braided stainless steel are buggers to get put together. I recently made one up for the power steering on my Nova, and when I started it up it leaked out of both ends.
So I 'm going to make a pressure testing rig out of some parts I had laying around. The pump is a piece that I got from my deceased BIL's garage, no idea what it was for, but rather than going in the scrap bin I grabbed it. The tank is a nitrous oxide tank that someone tossed out in my front yard last fall. I drilled a couple of 1/8" NPT ports in it for fittings, flushed it out with solvent in case there was something or some residue in it, and welded a piece of flat stock to it for mounting. The upright is a piece of 1/4" plate out of the scrap bin, as is the base, a piece of 3/8" stock.
I drilled holes for mounting the pump and tank, and cut a square out of the left side to clear the linkage on the pump. I welded the pieces together, and now I need to finda few fittings to connect the pump and tank, and put a fitting on the pump outlet with 1/4" NPT so I can attach a pressure gauge and whatever fitting I need to connect to the hose I'm testing. I'm also going to paint it so it doesn't get rusty, probably with some machine gray I have in the paint cabinet.
Oh, and I also need to find a knob to put on the valve shaft.
I'll post a pic or two when I get it done.
