Price of a cord of firewood

It's $350 to $400 for seasoned oak in my area. But, we can only burn on an offical burn day-- only in California. Please take back all of the nuts and flacks that left your State for the Golden State.

You mean you can heat by wood fire on specific days only?

As far as all the "nuts and flacks"...sorry, you got 'em!
In fact I'd like to send you some more from Vermont!

well it's been that way a long time. More than fifty years ago my father told me, only partially joking, that California was the home of the fruits and nuts. He was clearly not focused on their agricultural products but rather the human population.
For a while, things seemed to happen first in California.
I guess they still do.

So I'm told (and take it with a grain of salt),

I think that's how some of them season their wood: a few grains of salt and pepper :(

Reminds me of my favorite firewood story: Years ago I called up an ad for firewood. I asked how big the load was, and she told me "It's a big load, the truck has a lot of gears......" :smiley_aafz:

At our church we cut and sell firewood. The money goes toward missions, and other expenses. We have sold around 450 face cord of 16" wood. We have almost no seasoned wood in our yard. It goes at 70$ a face cord which is 4' x8' x16" this is the common way of firewood sales here in central New York.Un-seasoned is 60$ a face cord picked up at our yard, and we will help load. During the year on any Saturday we have 6 or 8 trucks with trailers waiting for our wood to be cut and split. We will have 2 splitters running, a Tractor loader moving logs and 2 cutters trying to keep up. On a good Saturday we will cut 50 face cord, split and its gone. At times we have people drop off what is called "un-manageable" wood. Bring- um on! Here is my Pastor ready to go. He's our full time pastor and full time cutter, A GREAT GUY! . . . . .john

I think the last 8' logs of mixed HW I bought were around $130/cd for a 8cd load.

Cut and split was around $200 or $210/cd.

No such thing as "dry" firewood here. At best its logs that were cut last year and delivered this year.

raw logs dropped at his processor were costing him over $100 per cord

That's about the cost of a full cord supplied in log length over here in northern NY...Ranges anywhere from $27-$33 a face cord depending how well the pack the rack on the truck.
By the time I buy my logs, work them up and haul them to the customer, maintain my equipment, at $80/face cord, I figure I'm hauling in a grand total of $5 an hour...I'm thinking of buying a second mattress right now since the first one's stuffed with the profits;-)
