JohnT, I would like your opinion and others as well, on how important it is to buy from a more local dealer. Would a more local dealer treat you differently (for service/parts) if you had purchased from a more distant dealer for a better price? I know no one can give an 'absolute' answer on this, just looking for the 'IMHO' type answer. I will check out Barlows though, I keep reading good things about them (guess pricing being the main thread). Thank you. Mike

I'd pay $100 to maybe $200 more to a good reputation local dealer but not more. All Kubota dealers get the same piece of Kubota equipment for the same price so one making a bunch more than Barlows doesn't love you because Barlows makes a profit.
I've bought 15 Kubotas from Barlows in under 10 years. I've needed dealer warranty service on one that needed to go to the dealer. I've had a few other minor issues which I picked up the items and they were small so they could have been mailed which Barlows will do.
A local Kubota franchised dealer is required to do warranty service and the regional Kubota rep will ensure the repair is done but the local dealer can move you to the back of the list but if that gets unreasonable then Kubota Corp would need to get involved.
It's stupid for a local dealer to mistreat a customer because their shop runs on repairs of unwarranted machines, mostly with the customer paying shop rates no matter where they got the machine.
Parts can be ordered online from Barlows or Messicks or other dealers that want the parts business so if a local dealer doesn't want parts business then that's a non issue since they can be delivered to your door by the friendly UPS/FedEx guy/gal. Maybe even cheaper. There are usually dealers in several directions within reasonable driving distance. A business owner that cuts his nose off to spite his face (an old saying my Mom used to tell me) doesn't usually last long until a common sense new owner takes over.
OK, that's my opinion and my rationale for my opinion.

you can always buy three point attachments form the local dealer, and build up a connection that way. I just bough a tiller and rotary cutter from my local guy, but got my tractor from Barlows, and once again in the market for a larger tractor, looking at a L3800 now. Best price gets my business. Lucked out on the two accessories got a package deal, was quoted, $3,000.00, but when I called back, salesman, said he was a little off, and ask for $100, more, I though that was reasonable and told him, sold. Was the best price in two years of looking for those two items.

Well guys.. I screwed up. I paid down payment and signed papers yesterday on the BX2670 thinking I was getting a great price from a particular dealer. Delivery is scheduled for med-next week. Several people who purchased tractors from them said they always had the best price of anyone in the area. Well this morning I got a response from another area dealer who was more than $800.00 cheaper with free delivery. I am kind of sick as the cheaper dealer has much nicer service facilities and seemes to be much more established. I always amaze myself with my continuing stupidity.

Well Markpx, Based on the usage, hours and years you expect to own the BX2670 the $800 'over pay' may not be the worst. If the dealer you purchased from was your preferred dealer maybe it will work out for the best. I do believe you have three business days to back out of a financed deal. However, if you gave them cash or a certified check it may take time to get that money back. If it was a regular check you could stop payment, but if this dealer is more convenient for service and attachments, you would want to think hard on that action though. You can call him and talk to him though. You might be able to get some other gear, parts, attachments or service commitment from your dealer if you tell them the situation. Good Luck. Be well, Mike

Chalk that one up to experience. Know you know to shop around, it could have been worse than $800.

I might say something to the dealer you bought the tractor from. Not to try and get any more off the price but just to let him know that you went with them over saving money and hope they will take good care of you in the future. Maybe they'll give you some good prices on attachments and services.

Yes I should have been more diligent and shopped around more. I had gotton quotes from another dealer who quoted $600 more than my signed deal. the lower quote came back today (I requested last Wednesday). i just assumed they were not going to respond. I still have another quote out. My luck it will come back Monday $1000.00 cheaper.

It is to big a hassle to get out of my deal. It was my mistake not the dealer's. i will face the wind and take my lumps. I will still enjoy my tractor. I planned to purchase some other attachments from this dealer and might mention the difference then.

Aww man that doesn't make you stupid just a little unlucky. Odds are you still got a pretty good deal and you had no reason to believe that someone else was going to come in that much lower. It sounds to me like you weren't even expecting a quote at all from the other dealer. If you decide you can't live with the price difference then you can cancel the deal but I'd go over it very carefully to make sure the quotes are apples to apples. You don't want to find out later that there were things left out of the cheaper quote.

Mark, yeah I agree, getting out of the deal is not the preferred option, especially if you intend to do business with this dealer in the future. I would say talk to him though. And the best time to get a good discount on a new attachment(s) may be now, or ask him if you bought an attachment by a certain date would he quote you a specific discount now due to the situation. And don't forget you got it for $600 less than the other deal, so don't feel so bad. Good luck.
