A gas station I know was great at this… he would see his competitor raise prices and he would do the same…

Owner said price is based on the market and not cost…

At the parts store back in the 80’s every time we got a price increase it was my job to mark up the existing inventory.

The small under $800 casual import exemption that went away is having a big impact in part because the added complexity…

Some are no longer buying/selling internationally…

I have 400k of new GE hospital medical monitors stuck at customs…

GE said it will honor the price but can’t provide delivery date as customs is swamped now that almost everything is subject to duty and different point of origin have different and changing duty schedules.

Maybe GE will bring production stateside again… like it was 30 years ago?

My understanding is the tariffs are assigned on the value of the components imported.

Based on invoice value of imported item. So, if tractor is assembled in the USA, then tariff is based on cost of each imported component or subassembly. But if tractor is assembled outside the country and then imported, tariff is based on price paid by importer for assembled tractor. Of course, all of these numbers are lower than the final sale price, which is why the current 10% - 25% tariffs aren't resulting in 10% - 25% price hikes.

Someone in the electronic business told me the tariff is on his cost and not profit…

Yes, price paid by importer for imported item.

I own 50 assorted vehicles and only one bought new…

Most of my cherished hand and power tools also bought used...

A rising tide carries all vessels. If tariffs drive up the cost of new, the used market heats up, and prices rise by similar margin there.
