Printers and ink??

I have an HP inkjet that I use infrequently, I've discovered that when the ink cart plug up I can use a q-tip with denatured alcohol to open up the plugged passages and make them work again.
Agree with those that print a test page every week just to keep it exercised, need to set a reminder to do so.

Checked Best Buy web. HP has a "they provide ink plan" for a flat rate plan for $s.99 per month for 50 copies. (6 Cents copy). If you need more they send more @ 2.99 per 50. They claim , doing it yourself costs about .22 a copy. So if you use 100 copy a month you pay 2.99 x 2 $5.98 month . They estimate doing it
yourself would be .22 x 100 = $22.00

Is something wrong here?

Anyone have any suggestions on printers that print cheaply. Something that I don't need a small loan to buy ink.
Like it to work to. I would rather pay a little more for printer if I get miles out of ink

This printer is pretty cheap. I can't see where it's a laser printer on ad. How much is toner?

It is kind of confusing isn't it. It does not jump out at you, but in the description it says it. On the toner I use something like this Amazon.com: Toner Tap ® Refill Kit for SAMSUNG CLP-300 and CLX-3160FN W/ Chips: Office Products
I have been thru a couple of these kits now with my original toner cartridges. When/if I start to see degraded print quality from using the old cartridges I will probably upgrade the printer and get one that is wifi and google print capable. I do it now thru the wifi router but sometimes it can be clunky. My wife and I both have home business and we go thru a fair amount of paper and it just keeps going and going. I have printed probably a couple of the large cases of paper on this machine over the last 6 or so years.
So to recap: I bought my Samsung Clp-300 printer for about $100 from NewEgg, and I have been thru 2 refill kits at about $40 each. So for $180 I have run 2 cases of paper thru this thing with decent color. Pretty darn cheap!
Good luck, Dave

BTW, I was just looking up the refill kit for that newer model. They are quite hi at about $100, I do not know why these are so expensive compared to the older model. You might see if you can get your hands on one of the clp-300 series or I saw Konica Amazon.com: Konica Minolta Magicolor 1600W Laser Printer: Office Products It has refill kits for cheap $35 ish. Here is an example of how any of these laser printers are refilled. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSKYRSNuURU
Food for thought, Dave

So that's 10,000 sheets of paper at 10 reams per box. It costs about 1.8 cents a page, not counting the cost of paper. I believe that's
very good. I thick sounds like a plan.

Yes, get yourself a laser. No, don't get a laser. Both answers are correct but depend on your needs.

Forget buying any pre-filled ink cartridges for ink jets. Here's how I print hundreds of full color pages for maybe twenty bucks a year. Get yourself the Canon Pixma 5320 or similar. Just make sure it uses the individual ink cartridges. Then head on over to Inkowl.com and buy the empty cartridges that have the auto reset chip/PCB on them ($24). Also order the ink bottles to refill them with, they come with the syringes you'll need. This part is important: do a little research on this so you don't go into it blindly. I've been doing this for twenty years.

As for lasers. Yes, they are wonderful for black and white printing and the color lasers are great for printing graphics, but NOT for printing photos. For that, they suck. I have the HP Pro 260 and really like it but it doesn't do the same things as my Pixma does. To cover all the bases, you need multiple printers. For color ink jet, do what I described and don't believe the stories about inferior ink. The ink from Inkowl works just dandy. If you are printing stuff that goes into a museum, then get your wallet out.

Have the HP 4500 Wireless and am happy with it, but use it frequently so the ink does not dry up. I have tried the Costco ink refill service. It's cheap, but the cartridges dry up real fast if you don't use them soon after they are refilled at the store. They don't seem to be sealed after filling like HP does. I was told by Costco that they have to be used within 60 days of refilling. Makes it hard to keep a few on hand with that short expiration date. Whatever you do, don't even attempt to refill them yourself. What a messy disaster!

I always thought the inkjet printer package should read "buy the ink, get the printer for free".

I have a HP Deskjet 6940 that I paid $20 for at a thrift store.
I run refurbished ink cartridges through it (I usually look for ones refurbished by Printonic) and the last ones I purchased were $2.60 each (in a 3 pack) and we go through about $20 of ink per year (on 1-3 reams of paper).
