Problem With New Yanmar??

/ Problem With New Yanmar?? #131
Well here is my .02. I have had a ym2000 for almost 6 years. I have ran and continue to run a 6 foot Caroni finish mower for mowing approx 4 acre yard. Mostly flat but the 2000 has absolutely NO problem at all running the 6 foot mower. Now I do need to put 2 weights on the front to prevent froginess. In addition to the finish mower I (when I bought tractor) got a 5 foot bush hog brush cutter. The tractor would handle it powerwise but believe it was marginal and the biggest issue was the weight of the 5 footer. It just made the tractor to front end light. On the advice of the dealer I switched to the 4 footer and all is well. I have used it the entire time with no problems. At one point I did have the temp light come on a couple times but never had any boilover. I replaced the sensor and never had another problem until this past year. I noticed I was losing water/antifreeze but no heating issue. I was losing it via the weep hole in the water pump. Welcome to the replace waterpump issue. I took my pump off and had it rebuilt. Had the radiator gone over while pump was off. Never had a problem since and it was replaced back in march. Cooling system on these little tractors is not that complicated. You sure should not be having these issues on a "ReMan" tractor!

The 2000 is figured to be 24 hp, not 22. And the 15 is figured at 18. So like the man said, if he can pull a 5 foot with a 18 hp tractor, one that is 6 hp more should have no trouble with a 6 foot. I didn't have a finish mower, but was told the 1700 which would be around 20 HP, wouldn't have a problem with a 6 foot one. Comes right back to where rco should make something right, one way or the other.

- A little larger tractor (YM2220D w/FEL mounted)
- 5' rotary cutter (borrowed JD Gyramor 305?? 503??, something like that)
- 8 acres, flat with grass/weeds from knee to head high (no woody brush)
- 2200 RPM, 3rd on the gearbox, #3 on the PowerShift.
- Coolant temp in the middle of the green arc except when the radiator screen was full of chaff. Clean the screen, temp goes back to the middle of the green.

Does the 2HP difference between a 2000 and a 2220 make that much difference. I have no hesitation running a 5' cutter on my 2220D. The tractor didn't act like it even knew the cutter was back there.

Maybe I should tell them to go ahead and have the radiator re-cored.........I could take it to my local rad. shop and send RCO the bill...........I personally would feel a lot better if something was done with the radiator, or, RCO could just send me a new one to put on there............I now believe the tractor is running on the hot side after reading the above posts..........

As far as implements goes, I am using a Bush Hog SQ600 Squealer (5ft.) (Bush Hog®) rotary cutter.............The 6' Finish Mower is manufactured by LMC (Lowery Manufacturing)...............

I believe you said the coolant was dirty when you got it. That would be somewhat normal on a 25 year old tractor. Probably the recon work did not include the radiator (seems odd) or you surely would not have had anything but nice clean coolant. I'd pull the radiator and have a local shop take the tanks off and rod it out. If it is a good solid core, it will be like new. If the water flows through it well and the air flows through it without restriction, it makes a huge difference. I would think the tractor should spin a 5' rotary in grass/weeds without getting hot, as long as it was operated with some common sense, ie correct ground speed for conditions and of course 540 PTO rpm.

It sounds like the dealer is trying hard. That is to his credit. To his discredit is the fact that this was a reconditioned tractor yet it appears a very basic and important element...the cooling system, was overlooked.

You know, I gotta say that as of right now I have not been exactly 100 percent satisfied with this YM2000 or RCO Tractor..............RCO keeps on insisting that it is the size of the implements..................Maybe they don't want to spend the time/labor on getting it fixed (speculating)................I don't know....................Being a customer though, I would feel A LOT BETTER if RCO could do something about the radiator...............If that is not the problem, which I think it is, we could move on to the next possible cause of having such a high temperature...............Maybe a new water pump or something.................As far as costs is concern, I should NOT have to come up with any out of pocket expense what so ever....................I hope someone from RCO is keeping up with these posts..............As of now, I am NOT a happy customer...............I am willing to do the labor myself as far as removing the radiator because I know how to do that................BUT RCO should have to pay the bill to have it re-cored..................I really wish Stuart will get back in town so he could read/reply to all these posts and get me and my tractor on the right path.........I know he or John will comment on them.........................I JUST HOPE THEY END UP DOING THE RIGHT THING..............My little Yannie has a virus.......It is "running fever" and we need to bring it down!

Seriously, I have had some minor issues with my tractor since the first day it was delivered.............I expected to have to tighten up some screws/bolts (no big deal to me)..........I did not expect to have a blown headlight bulb (still no big deal), which RCO already took care of.................I have a grease zerk missing on a front tie-rod end that I'll buy and install myself very soon (no big deal)......That is minor............The shackle that is part of the 3ph sway chains bent (made out of cheap material, but no big deal to me)........I had an extra one that is a lot more stronger than the one that came with it and I put it on............But really other than that, that is all the problems I've had....................My only 'real' problem/concern is the over-heating issue ( this has become a big deal to me now).....................

I talked to Stuart today on the phone.........He was in Mexico........Been delivering tractors...............He has had quite a few truck problems on his trip to the west coast (poor feller).........I honestly really did felt sorry for him...............He had to pull over on the side of the road today Just to talk to me because he kept loosing a signal..............He called me back when he pulled over.................You see, I have faith that when he gets back everything will be taken care of with my radiator/tractor............The ONLY concern I have with my tractor as of now is with the cooling issue..................

Oh forgot to mention..The headlights sometimes don't want to wor when I pull up on the "1st stage " (either high or low beam, not sure which one it is) of the switch............Stuart said just to spray some contact cleaner in there............And also, I have alittle oil seapage around the gear shift lever rubber boot.............Stuart said that the little "horse shoe" looking tube behind the seat on top of the lift housing is probably just stopped up by a dirt dobber or something.......He said just take a piece of wire and push it up in there and un stop it OR unscrew it and clean it real good..................But again, NEITHER one of these "issues" is a big deal to me................Something HAS to be done about the temperature though......I imagine it is only going to get worse in time because I do use the tractor regularly..............

Ya'll know something,............I wonder if my YM2000 is a YM2000A? It has the letter "A" in my serial number on the engine block................

I was looking at the cooling system parts diagram break down at hoyetractor.com

I have some parts on my tractor that isn't in the diagram..........Mine is made a little different........

I'm not trying to start a big scene, I'm just curious..........

I am not trying to start an anti Vietnam recon thread with the following comment, but, it is common for these tractors to have different parts than what came on them from the factory. A common theme is someone ordering a part for a Vietnam reconditioned tractor from someone other than the dealer they purchased from and not getting what they needed. For example, you might order a fuel filter from Hoye or EFC and you state that you need a filter for a YM2000. The filter they send you is definately for a YM2000 but it does not match what you took off of your tractor. Come to think of it, and this is a long shot, but is it possible that your over heating problem could be caused by a water pump without the GPM needed or a radiator that isn't large enough?

You keep saying all this little things are no problen to you, but all these little problems add up to one big problem. If a tractor has been truly remanufactured, the coolant would have to be changed when the engine was disassembled. You keep defending RCO but in my book if I bought what was considered a basicly "new" tractor and had all these problems, I'd be mad and wonder what kind of scam they're pulling. As far as buying a tractor too small, that's your fault. The rule of thub for finish moweres is 1 foot bigger than your brush cutter. I know people aren't following that rule on here but it could be dangerous safety wise.

Overheating on a compact tractor should be a non-issue, unless you have back-flushed the system, had the radiator rodded out, have full-flow clear water running through the system and it still overheats. It ain't rocket science. When/if you decide to fix it, your only concern will be if it is running hot enough.
