Problem With New Yanmar??

The dealers aren't saying anything because you bought a recon, and they don't deal recons. Plus I don't think they would bash another dealer on a public forum, that would be bad manners. And, yes, we are all waiting to see how your dealer handles the problem.

When your overheating problem is resolved and you try out your larger implements again, try slowing down your speed and see if that helps. Probably what you will find is that if you used a 4' rotary cutter and 5' finish mower you could operate at a faster speed than with the ones you have. The YM2000 will likely need to operate those attachments at a slower speed than your Mahindra does.

I HAVE been going slow.........The temp still gets to around 215 degrees with my 6' finish mower..........It should not be that high of a temperature.......I am scared it will blow a head gasket if I keep using it.........

I should not and will not buy a 4' brush cutter or a 5' finish mower when I already have a 5' brush cutter and a 6' finish mower.........It doesn't make any sense...........

Again, thanks for the kind words but I can't take credit for being the owner. That's Eugene Nichols.

Well Travis, no intent to offend or anything but you seem to be acting a bit hard headed on this subject. For about 16 pages, most advised against the "recon" and you bought it anyway, and continue to defend them. Then most advise that you use a bit smaller equip and you say no way, you'll use what you have. Well if you have a 40 hp mahindra then a 24 horse yanmar is probably a nice smaller tractor to have. If you need to bush hog, use the bigger tractor. The five foot brush cutter is too big for a 2000 to handle efficently. You can go faster with a four, and in an hour actually mow more. I hope you get your problems worked out but honestly it's beginning to sound like a broken record. You know whats wrong, live with it or get it fixed! Again, no intent to offend, but face reality here.

I was thinking along these same lines.

Well, EFC is a good dealer, and would not steer you wrong. That said, he hasn't got into this, but I just went to his web site, and he sells 2000's with the 5 foot bush-hog. So it is big enough to handle it, if it weren't overheating. He would not sell them for the 2000 if it were too big. I would sure put a lot more trust in him, and what he does, than most dealers, very few are in his class. Now I don't know the man, or live anywhere near him, its just the feed back all who has dealt with him has convinced me of. So you don't need a bigger tractor, you need to make them fix it, or just forget it and live with what you have. As if they won't do right on this one, why do you think they would on another one???????

JUST TO STRAIGHTEN UP SOME THINGS......................

I just hung up the phone with RCO Tractor..........Me, Stuart and John were all on the phone the same time........(3-way calling, conference call, however you want to put it)..............THEY CALLED ME ON THIS LABOR DAY HOLIDAY.......I NEVER called them not one time today (untli we lost connection one time).........We all stayed on the phone for a long, long time.........Longer than I stayed on the phone with women when I was a teenager!!

Anyway,......They asked me what I wanted to do.........I wanted to know what they recommended...........

Stuart told me to take the radiator off, bring it to my local rad. shop, and see if it could be re-cored.........They, RCO, would pay the labor bill, just like they should do........................I asked Stuart if the rad. was no good, would they send me another one? He said it would be used but YES they would send me another radiator.......And I would be happy with that (It may not be able to, but I personally think the old one can be fixed)

Another option was to trade the tractor in on an upgrade like a YM2500.......................I would have to come up with some more money, But I can't afford it at this time...................I really want to keep the YM2000 anyway................

SO where I stand right now is things are turning around for me, just like arthr31 told me................RCO IS DOING JUST WHAT THEY SAID THEY WOULD DO:.......BACK THE TRACTOR 100%..........

As of now, NO ONE and I MEAN NO ONE can bash RCO TRACTOR about my situation........IT WOULD BE TOTALLY WRONG................THEY ARE DEFINITELY TRYING TO MAKE GOOD ON IT........

Like I said earlier, we are ALL Yanmar owners here no matter where it was reconditioned or who the previous owner was...............And NO, RCO did NOT tell me that.........That is my statement.

In one way to bash them might be wrong, but I have never heard of a tractor sold by regular dealers that ever had this much of a problem, now they may have, but I haven't heard of it. Nor tried to get the person to use a smaller bush-hog or finish mower, instead of just fixing the problem. That is my say on it, not trying to make you mad, but that is what I believe. And if you get the heating problem fixed I'm sure you will find it will handle a 5 foot bush-hog and 6 foot finish mower. Good luck.

Alright people.... for the record..... since the inquisition seems to be ongoing....

We (RCO Tractor) did not sell Travis the oversized implements for this YM2000... our understanding was that he was going to run a smaller mower on the YM2000 to get into tight spaces, and the current stuff was staying on the big Mahindra. We've already apologized to Travis for any part we may have played in that miscommunication, but we didn't sell him the implements and had no knowledge of his intention to run them on this tractor.

Those recommending that Travis run the 5' brush mower...... you're giving Travis BAD and DANGEROUS ADVICE. You must consider the variables of mower weight, mower HP requirement, what you're cutting and how thick and tall it is, air temperature, etc etc. In some situations I'm sure you can run a 5' mower on a YM2000. The model of mower Travis is running (Bush Hog SQ600) is rated for tractors with MINIMUM PTO HP of 25 up to 40, just like the Howse mowers that we sell. So, he's running a mower that's 100 lbs heavier, and minimum of 5hp rating TOO BIG for the tractor he bought from us....One trip half way up the ramps of my trailer with a YM2000 & this 5' mower (even with the suitcase weights) would convince you of this REAL FAST. Bush Hog makes a 5' that's rated down to 18 hp, but that's not what he's got. Maybe that's what some of you who are running 5' mowers are using, or something similar. But, the 5' mowers we sell, and the 5' mower Travis already had should not be run on a YM2000.

Regarding overheating... I think I've read every page of this post and to date Travis has seen a temperature ONE TIME that would trigger a properly working temp sensor, and that was when he was (once again against our repeated urging) running the oversized mower. According to Yanmar's service manual, the stock temp sensor is set to activate at 212 deg, +- 5.4 deg.....so the light should come on between 206.6 and 217.4. Travis' was coming on in the 190 range....sending up red flags of trouble, when the only real trouble was the sending unit, and Travis' insistence on running an oversized implement. Apparently the brand new sensor we sent Travis was bad (exact same unit sold by some other dealers frequenting this forum, btw), or the wire is grounding somewhere. But he's got a gauge now, so it's moot. Contrary to what some have said here, 180 degrees IS NOT OVERHEATING.... 195 degrees IS NOT OVERHEATING. And in a pressurized system, like the YM2000, the water will not boil until a signigicantly higher temperature is reached... For this reason, some people in this forum have suggested using sensors that don't activate until a higher temp, like 230. To put this in perspecitve, older Kubotas equipped with thermostats don't even BEGIN to open the thermostat and flow coolant until temp reaches 190, and FULLY open the thermostat at 212. An engine running in the 190 degree range is healthy, with temperature in the desired operating range.

To our critics....How many Yanmar dealers here can honestly say they core every single radiator, even on the tractors that show no evidence of cooling issues???? We've never made that claim...although we do flush them all, pressure test them, and temp test them with an infrared gun.

Even so, Travis is concerned about it.... and we don't want him having trepidation about running his tractor (whether it's founded or not) so we've offered to have the radiator cored at our expense, and try it again with the FINISH MOWER ONLY. We don't like the idea of him running a 6' finish mower (should be a 5), but we've never run an LMC fin mower....so we figure it's worth a shot. I think we've made it clear to Travis that 1) we're glad to have him as a customer, 2) he needs to heed the advice we give him when he asks for it, 3) that we will not support him in running that 5' mower with that tractor, and 4) that he needs to leave a message on the phone if we can't pickup...otherwise we'll never know.

We've also given Travis several other options:

Of course he can bring the tractor back to our shop for us to deal with it.

Or we'll work the shipping end for discounted transportation for him.

Trade it in for full credit toward a YM2500 (or other similar model that is properly matched to his implements) sold at a $300 discount.

Travis is another example of a member looking for objective advice getting confused by the misinformation, and frustrated by the turf war some folks always want to wage on here.
