Problems with Kubota Mower Decks- RCK60-29B

I only have 5 hours cutting, but I am happy with the quality and performance. The wheels are at the proper setting according the the manual, but I'm surprised how much the wheels contact the ground considering I have a flat lawn. I will measure the height off the garage floor tonight and make sure its got 1/2 inch clearance.

Are you sure they are touching the ground or are they just spinning from the grass contact?

I have the 60" and it cuts great. It had to have taken a pounding to loose a caster, so I recon your adjustment is also gone. As others have said, they are not intended to be in contact all the time, and when they are, they don't fall off.

I'd agree with that. These are heavy decks compared with what's on a box store mower... it would take a serious hit to break a caster. We have 8 years of heavy, rough ground mowing on our 54" deck... no such problems. Good reason to take the deck off when not needed for mowing, though.

Yeah those anti scalp wheels are tough. Ive been bouncing them off dirt lately (digging a patio) with no issues. Must have been some hit (or some of Kubota's not so great welds)

I have the 54 on my Bx and it took ALOT of adjusting and messing around with different brands of blades to get it to where I would call it a "good" cut.

I have a thread here dealing with all the trials and tribulations of getting the 54 to cut well. One key is setting up the deck on concrete using the Deere deck gauge. Deck must be level L-R. Front should be pitched down 1/4". Tires must be properly inflated. I installed some Oregon Gator Mulcher blades that helped with lift. Ill update with a thread link

Two things to figure out . . .

1. Our twenty-five year old tractor cuts the grass better than our new B2620. Lots of bald spots when mowing. Any ideas? Are you having similar problems?

2. After 6 months one of the anti scalp rollers broke off. We had it welded and it seemed to work, but now the wheel mower frame are bent. Anyone having similar problems?

I have a B1750 HSD with 60" MMM bought new in 1993. In twenty years of ownership, I've replaced one spindle bearing about three years ago. I replaced the blades with new high vacuum blades and the belt when I had the deck off but neither were really needed. Absolutely no other problems of any kind.

Last year, I shopped both Kubota BX and MF GC17** series tractors (much prefer the Iseki built MF, by the way) as possible replacements for my 20+ year old B1750HSD. Eventually I decided that my 1750 was superior to the current replacements for multiple reasons and decided to keep it. My 20+ year old MMM is far superior to the currently available SCUT MMM decks, again for multiple reasons. I will likely buy a couple of new gage wheels and keep it indefinitely.

I think we are comparing two different series of tractors here. The OP,like myself is talking about a B series mower deck. Most other members are comparing BX decks.I don't know the difference but I have had two BX tractors with mower decks and they both mowed way better than my B2620.One BX had a regular cut deck and the other was a fine cut.It seems,in my limited experience, that the BX tractors are quite a bit better at mowing.

I dont know for sure, but I imagine that kubota shares deck stampings between these two smallest tractors? It seems logical that they would. Then they'd weld on whatever brackets were necessary for that specific machine? Maybe they are completely different?

I wonder if its added weight of the B making the difference in cut?

Anyways, the point of my post was to indicate that in my experience with Kubota decks, you really have to tweak them to get the best cut. Being out of level 1/2" or being flat F-R can do a number on the cut quality. It took weeks of screwing around with mine to get what Id call a "decent" cut. They're definitely not plug and play.

No dealer is going to take the time to set one up properly either.

Very true.

Mine came in a crate! LOL. Even if it didnt, I doubt my dealer would have fussed with it enough to have it level L-R with about a 3/16 tip down on the leading edge. Even with the deere guide it still took over an hour of messing around... That's almost $100 in shop time!!

From what I've read, it's actually three different series of tractors that are being compared.

Hi,

I have a neighbor that has a BX, and I have a B2710HST that uses a RCK60-27B, (which is the exact same deck as the RCK60-29B deck that the O.P. referenced, with the exception of the mounting hardware that it hangs from, as the RCK60-29B is for a B2910HST tractor) and the 27B/29B decks are very different from the BX decks. While the decks used on the BX series hang fully suspended from contact with the ground, the RCK60-29B , (when lowered in the cutting position) maintains full contact with the ground while it is actually, "towed" by the tractor. I'll try to attach a pic of the RCK60-29B mounted to a B2910HST to give a better idea of what I'm talking about.

along with a pic of the other type,

which shows that the B2620 has a lot more in common with the BX series than the B series.

Hope this helps .

Regards,
