Two weeks ago had two pit bulls from the neighbors down the street attack me and my dog (a lab) in our own yard. As I walked with my dog out of our house into our front yard to load him into his crate that was in the truck. We were attacked. I had to kick the first dog to get it off my dog and then hit the second dog with my hunting boots who had my dog by the neck. The other dog was charging me and my dog. As I threw him into the truck and yelled at the two pit bulls who then went over into the neighbors yard. I called the police and they showed up. I talked to the officer and told him if it happend again I would kill the two dogs as I have a daughter. He said you would be completely justified. I realize it is not necessailry the Pit Bulls fault that they are the way they are, the issue is there are a lot of people who seem to think these are the breed of "dog to own" and I am sorry in my opinion most of these peope should not be allowed to own these type of dogs. They don't have the skills or the time to commit that this breed needs. Pit Bulls have been bred to be aggressive and fighters, even family Pit Bulls are not trust worthy. About 15 years ago a co worker used to brag about how great a family pet their Pit bull was until it mauled the face and ripped the ear off her 10 yr old son right in front of her, without provacation from the boy who was just swinging in the chair on the porch just a few feet away from her. Just a couple years ago, a young man I worked with who has a young family was playing on the floor in their living room when their Pit Bull bit him and ripped is mouth and cheek open.... That pretty much sums up my opinion the the breed.
Yep, folks like to drop there unwanted pets off out in the country.. we have had so many dumped on us out at the ranch... and I have had to kill one of the ranch neighbors dogs for killing goats. I caught their dog the first time doing it and called them up on the phone, they said oh not our dog he is always here when we get home, you must have seen a coyote or some other dog. The next time I called the sheriff with their dead dog and had them pay for the three goats that it had killed...
