Great looking shop! I had same issue with no light at garage door so I installed lights on the garage door that I can turn on when working with door up.

Ericher,

The heater works good in my shop. Last winter it got down to -27 for a couple of days. That little heater kept everything warm. It looks small but puts out quite a bit of heat.

Scooter,

How did you connect the lights to the door? I have a low ceiling so I don't have the room to put lights above the garage door, and have never considered putting them on the door itself.

I cut wood strips out of 1/8 plywood and attached lights directly to that. The lights are wired in series so only one is plugged in. I also have lights attached to ceiling so if door is down I have light and they are up flush to ceiling so that when door is up they don't hit.

At my old shop I had planned to put a work light on a pivoting arm, so that it would work with the door up or down and swing out of the way if bringing in something tall. Never got a roundtuit. :(

The out feed table isn't bolted to the saw. They are separate. My solution for cutting MDF is something different. I will try explain it here. It starts with 2 saw horses. Then I have 6 pieces of 3/4" plywood. 3 pieces are 4ft long and 3 pieces are 8ft long. All pieces are 6" wide and have slots cut halfway through. 2 of the pieces sit on top of each saw horse. Then the 3 long pieces are interlocked with these 2. The third short piece is used at the middle to prevent wobble in the center section. I have tried to include a picture so you can see what I am trying to explain. The best part of this is that it breaks down into a small bundle for storage. Saw horse sheet good system

Dan;

Cutting up sheet goods is awkward at best. I built a table to make the process easier. Built it with pressure treated lumber so it can stay under roof but, outside. It is easy to pull full sheets of plywood, MDF, etc straight out out pickup bed.

Also built below storage rack for full and partial sheets. It is on HD casters to make it easy to move around.

Nice use of space. I really like all that flat area you have for your table saw!!! That must make ripping plywood easy

Looks gooder-un!

All of my power tools are on castors, including the drill press.

I have an 8' long workbench on a hospital gurney.

What are you guys using for casters and where do you get them?
I've been looking at casters for equipment but so far the best bang for my buck has been the Harbor Freight 1000 lb. Capacity Mini Mover's Dolly I bought when they were $6 and $7 each.

The best place I've found on line so far is Surplus Center and I need a lot of casters eventually.

Most of mine came from Surplus Center. I have a lot of my attachments on dollies.

I think these are two 5" and one 3.5".

I got the Mini Mover's Dolly on sale at Tractor Supply, with a full size dolly that I removed the casters from, to use on another dolly.

I like the idea of having a table for cutting up plywood/MDF and other sheet goods but I don't have the room. That's why I use the breakdown system like I posted a link to. I find it great to use to make the cuts I need. Then when it's not needed it breaks down to an 8ft long x 6" x 6" package that stores easily.

I also like the swing out light idea. I may find a use for that in the other garage for when I have vehicle work. Things like changing tires at the end of the season, brakes etc.

As for the casters, I get them from the local hardware store. Mine are polyurethane with a softer rubber coating. This gives me the weight I need for the benches and tools with the ability to roll over dust, dirt or cords that might be in the way. My casters have a total height of just 4-1/4". This gives me the most usability. A caster that is higher will start to limit my cabinet size. The 4" height is basically the same size as a toe kick so I don't lose anything in terms of storage space.

It reminds me of something I did for buddy when I wired his garage. He did a lot do automotive work. So I set up a row of fluorescent lights about 2ft off the floor. The lights ran down each side of his garage. By doing this he never had to use trouble lights when working tires, brakes, axle seals. These lights were on their own circuit and switch so he didn't have to have them on all the time. When the car was up on a lift the whole under side was lit up, and because the lights were below his line of sight he never had a glare problem from the lights themselves.

I built my sawhorses the same height as my table saw (on casters) and benches. It makes ripping 4x8 sheets pretty easy.
