Propane Heating cost

Also I have a wood stove in the basement. Key is to put it close to the outside door. Tell your wife it will keep the floors warm since it's in the basement. No heatpump or central furnance can do that. This is what my wife likes most on the cold nights. She asks me to get it started and welcomes the mess on the 5 feet of concrete from the door to the stove. She is a clean crazy woman on everything else.

When you install all of these propane appliances and then suddenly NG becomes available is it still no big deal to convert between the gasses? It used to be orifices and maybe a regulator change to go between the two. I happen to live in an area with development coming from all directions but for right now there is no gas main in the street for me and the gas company told me it was not available at this time. I like gas cooking and water heating, even as fuel for a generator.

It is too bad propane is so expensive to heat with. It is almost the same as electricity. I really don't like cooking on an electric range, the wife and I were laughing at the tea kettle dancing around on the flat glass cooktop last night. Totally retarded.

I read an article yesterday on how to determine if you are heating your house efficiently. Add all utilities that apply to heat your home. Convert them into BTU's. Divide the total BTU's by the total square foot of your home and then divide that by the "heating degree days" for your area. If the final answer is 10 or less you are doing pretty good. 10 to 20 you need to do some tightening up. If over 20 there is some serious air leaks going on.

Around Here:
If you run it in your tractor or truck It's called Diesel Fuel.
If you use it to heat your house some people call it Home Heating Oil.
Other Folks call it Fuel Oil.
It's all the same stuff but people here base what they call it on what it's used in.

Oil in pretty much all areas will be cheaper than propane, today, for heating the home. But I like cooking on gas, heating water with gas, and possibly running a generator on gas. Heck, even the BBQ can be plumbed to the main service.

Oil heat is pretty uncommon here in the land of cheap hydropower and mild climate. They have some cool electric heat pumps now that even heat water.

Although I have Natural Gas I'm thinking of going with a home heating oil or fuel oil stove in a 16 x 22 and a 12x22 stall in one of my pole buildings.
This may qualify me to get home delivery of off road diesel to run in my tractor.

Hmmm, do you think the fuel oil delivery guy gives a rat's butt whether or not you have an appliance to burn the oil he is delivering? Today's prices make oil look decently attractive and the boilers powered by oil are quite efficient.
