Mornin Shawn,
Around here its quite common for the propane company to supply the tank for you. Most dont charge, but some chaege a small amount. The problem that you have with a company supplied tank is that you can only get propane from that supplier /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif By getting my own tank I can go shopping for the best price around /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I havnt filled mine up for the cold weather yet, bu allready I have found a supplier that will sell for $.64 less than I payed last year. And I might have a lead on cheaper than that /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Thats the advantage of owning your own, over leasing a company tank!!!

It's fairly common for the LPG companies in this area to supply the tank at no charge, but as has been said, you're then limited to buying your gas from that company. The 100 pound bottles at a home are very rare here, though, or at least I haven't seen any. The horizontal tanks, in different sizes, are all that I've seen. However, when I was doing gas leakage surveys, I found the pair of 100 pound bottles to be quite common in some other parts of the country, especially in Pennsylvania. It was also fairly common to see both natural gas and heating oil in the same home, and I even saw some that had heating oil, natural gas, and LPG.

Hmmm, I never thought about shopping around for a better price on propane. That makes sense though. Probably not worth my time or energy for the 1 refill per year that I pay for.

Shawn,
I burn about 300 gals/yr at the Vermont house. If I can save $.64 per gal thats almost $200 . Worth a few phone calls IMHO /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Most definitely for you. I am only paying about $60/year for LP.

I've mentioned before in other threads how much I LOVE my geothermal heat pump.
