Propane Tank, fresh coat of paint.

In this area the propane dealers prefer to lease the tanks. I was paying about $50 to $60 per year for a 100 gal tank and using only about 200 gal per year. Two years ago the dealer's drivers would not drive the road into our town for about three weeks due to the weather and I almost ran out of gas. The dealer refused to sell me a tank, but offered to lease a larger tank for a higher fee. I had to look for a while, but eventually found a place to buy my own. Now I have a tank large enough for an average winter's use and can buy from any dealer.

Thanks for the comments.

Ferrel gas, the company that was servicing this tank leases this size tank for $75 a year. I called 2 other suppliers and they were getting the same price for a lease. There might be some negotiating on the lease, but I'm not sure. At the price I paid for this tank its paid for in less than 3 years of use. I also liked the idea of shopping around for the best price.

It was to windy today to put on the primer. Weather man says wind will stay up through the weekend. Looks like next week before paint job will continue.

Does anyone know what type of paint would have been used in 1956 on these tanks? Should I just paint over what paint is still on the tank thats sticking well ot take it to bare metal?

It will have lead in it. Paint over it.

Thanks BlueRidge. I left most of the last layer of paint. Just removed all that was flaking.

Finally got the painting done this week. Here is a picture of it with 2 sprayed on coats of Rustoulem primer.
