Proper Fluid Disposal

I guess that would depend on where you are from /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif For years we "oiled" our gravel driveway with it. But, I believe that is "socially unacceptable" now.

As an alternative, you can take it to any place that changes oil. They may charge you for the service. In my area of the country they just poor it in the barrels and all I owe them is a thank you.

Here in California most auto parts stores will take your waste oil. I don't know about the rest of the country.

Trouble with oil and oil products are the indexers, viscosity enhancers and other additives that cause lingering pollution problems. It was once acceptable to pour the used oil on weeds, oil roads etc., today it would not only be unwise, but irresponsible to dump it. The amount of cars and trucks in the US today reflect an ever increasing amount of used oil. Where I live, the government vehicles use recyled/rerefined oil to lubricate their vehicles. Of course since its being done by a government agency I suspect they pay somewhere around $10.00 a quart for the product. When we purchase oil here in CA. they tack on a disposal fee so getting rid of it is handled when you purchase it making disposal considerably easier for even the cheapest of folks to do.

Frank, I take all my used oil to our local Pep Boys auto parts store. There is an Amoco station nearby that also takes it. A lot of places do if you ask /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Here in Texas our local city/county landfill takes old fluids--without charge even. There's one tank for oils and another for antifreeze.

Do the same disposal rules apply to Kubota UDT - the hydraulic transmission mixture they use? Is that just an oil?

Any Autotransmission fluid / hydo fluid can go to the tractor/auto repair place same as oils, they burn it in their oil heaters to heat to garage. As others said, stores take it too. The trouble I have is with paint, poisions, acids, and other chemicals that they will not take.

I burn everything oil in my waste oil burners. Engine, ATF, UTF, gear oil, hydraulic oil, contaminated gas or diesel.....

I have a antifreeze recycler in my shop and recycle on location. Cost me about .45 cents to recycle a gallon of antifreeze to better than new spec's.

Paint is a easy one. I just set the cans outside and let the thinner evaporate. Once it turns to a solid block I just toss the can in the dumpster.

Anything I can't burn or recycle myself that is hazardous is given to Saftey Kleen. I'll let them dispose of or recycle it properly.
