Proper tire pressure?

   / Proper tire pressure? #11
First thing to check is whether you have bias or belted tires. Belted are significantly more expensive tires. Belted are much better for traction because the sidewalls have more flex and allow the tread to increase contact to the ground. If you have bias (most folks have because all tractors are sold with them as far as i know), then lowering the air pressure down to 5-10 psi is needed to get R-4's treads to fully contact the ground. This principle applies to surfaces that allow for the tread to bite into it.

For surfaces that resist tread bite, the best traction is when you get maximum weight on the smallest footprint, assuming the tire has aggressive tread (e.g. R-1's).
