Well, I MAY have encountered a little glitch in my plan. I was at the rental place I've got the SS booked at, and buddy asks me if I have a diesel fuel tank at my place. I told him I planned to use jerry cans... he told me to make sure I had alot of them... hmm. I was thinking $200-$300 for the week. Sat night I'm at a party and chatt up a buddy that runs equipment. He tells me that if could go through $200/ day!!!!! Oh My God... This news I get the same day I got two quotes for my daughter's tree house material that were both 2X what I had thought... and the same week my wife's car gobbled up $1,200.

Asked the Mrs what she'd rather; trail or tree house. She said trail. I'm pretty bumbed out. I had my daughter all pumped for a tree house, and now I have to break it to her that she's not getting one. This year at least...

Anyone know how much fuel this thing, or something similar goes through? I'll post in the Deere section

I would plan on about a tank a day. The tank is 29 gallons, that's a good sized unit. But it'll depend on how hard you're running it and how many hours you work of course.

We used to have a Case 1845 skid steer, and it wasn't a tracked unit. What I noticed with that unit is I would hardly ever run at full throttle, with most work at 60-70% power. Full power and I felt like I was on a bucking bronco.

I don't have any hard and fast data, but I do recall that Case sipping fuel when throttled back. Your buddy might be running his machine wide open, while on your rough trails wide open might dislodge your kidneys. Might want to question him on how he runs his machine before panicking.

Ok, those numbers sound a fair bit better then the $200/ day. I'm getting it one way or the other.... I may just have to get done what I can in the first 3, 4, 5 days instead of going all out for the full 7 days. If I can't finish the trail or exhaust the gravel pile before being broke, I'll at least loosen the pile so I don't have to pick axe to keep going.

One good thing is that buddy at the desk said I'm supposed to get 50 hours for the rental, but I could push that to 70. It's based on 10 hour days but the computer doesn't recognize the weekend.

And, if you are running at 3/4 throttle without working it too hard (ie: moving gravel vs running a flail mower or a mulcher), I would be surprised if it used more than 2GPH, and I would guess that it will be more in the 0.75-1.5GPH range.

Put another 3 hours of jackhammering in getting ready for the skid steer. Just another couple weeks! I can't wait!
