The newspaper last month told us that due to a computer problem, property owners will not recieve their tax bills until after January 1st.

Here we have the option to pay half before December 31st and the 2nd half by April 15th... without penalty. They are due by Dec. 31st

Still waiting for mine am wondering if there will be a late fee... mine last year were $531 with ag excemption and Homestead credit.

My taxes on bare land with no improvements is $1,337 for a tax appraised value of $98,000. My home and two acres have homestead and veterans disability credit. The taxes on that are $1,950. My total school tax bill for 2008 is $3,287. These are all just school taxes. In TX, the taxes are split between county and school taxes, but for some reason, I've only received a bill for school taxes. The total for county taxes will probably be about 10% of the school tax bill.

In Texas, we have no state income taxes, so that helps to relieve the pain of paying school taxes.

733.00 on 320 acres. That includes my house. Ours are due in Oct. but aren't delinquent until Jan.
Our taxes have gone up recently for education. I can remember when they were around 40 dollars for that acreage.
Here in Alabama we do not support education with property taxes or any other way.
There is a constant battle going on to raise property taxes for education instead of sales taxes which are 10%.
In my county an increase was just voted down which would double my taxes.

Should the landowner be the one to support education or should everyone. We never hear the end of the argument.

My 68 acres are in under a timber agriculture exemption. My house is 1,000 sq ft and valued at $60,000 for a total property tax of $1,490 that was due Dec 31, but can be paid in January without any penalty. I was going to write the check this morning, but will wait until this evening and mail it off tomorrow.

My home in town last year was $2800 for school and county tax on a postage stamp lot. At the farm I paid around $2400 for 7 acres with a 2000sq ft home.

There is a long and reasonable debate for property taxes to fund education. One reason being it is the most stable or all taxes. But our county just voted to add a 1% sales tax to reduce property taxes for education.

As taxes vary so much from state to state and then county to county this may not apply to may here but: in South Carolina if house is your residence or the land is timber or farm you have to file with the county for the reduction. The difference on house taxes is at least a 1/3 and on land more. Have a neighbor who pays more on an 1/2 lot than on 27 acres of farm land. They are across the road from each other and both have tress on the not farm part.

Here in Vermont they give us a slow comfortable $%^&. My taxes are $3500 on 9 acres. We also have 7% sales tax, and the highest income tax burden in the country. YIKES!

We have two five-acre lots side-by-side. Unimproved lot with timber exemption is $5.70 per year. Improved lot is $2,100.00

5.25 acres with new home, 2008 taxes $6463. Sales tax 5%, state + fed gas tax 51.3 cents per gallon. Don't move to WI thinking the cost of living is cheap

You can take comfort in the fact that my 910 acres, house, farm equipment, cattle, and barns runs less than half or your 9 acres.;)
Oklahoma passed a lottery awhile back to help fund the schools:rolleyes:, I can't tell it has helped the schools, but it sure has made it more difficult for them to get school bonds passed to fund the schools. Everybody says "the lottery is supposed to fix that so why raise taxes?"
