1*Finally, a real reason to support legislation creating a state lottery.
1*We never had an income tax in Ohio till about 25 or 30 years .ago.
It was supposed reduce real estate taxes but instead property taxes keep right on climbing and so we became stuck with both taxes.
Later on it was decided a lottery would fix school funding but as time went on more and more of the lottery money was diverted from the schools to something else to where today the schools receive little if any money from the lottery .
However property taxes keep right on escalating.
South Carolina has about the stupidest tax laws I've ever heard of, with my county(Sumter) leading the way in the stupid department.
I got charged for $3,000 worth of improvements last year, funny thing is I DIDNT MAKE ANY IMPROVMENTS! unless you consider cutting grass and raking leaves "improvements". went down to the tax office to debate it and God help those mentally challenged people at the tax office is all I can say. I am in the process of fighting a $10,000 increase on my farm land this year, which I know HAS to be a mistake, otherwise someone better sit me down and show me dollar by dollar why my farm taxes went up $10,000 from last year.
2* I think we have about the most incompetent people in our public offices.
very frustrating to be a land owner where I'm from most of the time.

2*Our county tax office would give yours a run for the money when it comes to ineptness .
They gave away 3 lots of my parents place to the state back in 1964.
As if that wasn't enough they taxed my parents on this land for 25 years after they gave it away to the state.
They had the rest of their property appraised anywhere from 2 to 3 times its true value.
Back in the early seventies they taxed me for a building that wasn't even on my land .
The building was 50 to 100 feet over on the adjoining owners land.
They billed me for years on a quarter of an acre that don't even exist.
When I received my tax bill and appraisal back in 1992 they had me down for 2 septic systems valued at 1800 each .
When I pointed out there was only 1 septic system they reduced the appraisal by 300 dollars so now I have been paying taxes on a 1500 dollar septic system I don't have for 16 years.
They taxed me on an 8x16 storage building until it depreciated down to nothing .
At that point instead of ceasing to tax me on it they discontinued allowing me yearly depreciation on it and revalued a building with no value on it to an appraised value of $500 which was about twice the original value they had on it and started charging me taxes on it again.
To add insult to injury come to find out that it wasn't ever legally taxable in the first place;but I paid taxes that weren't owed on it for 26 years .
It would be quite a feet for any county in the country to top this.
