Sorry.....

There's some links to 4 or 5 videos of my PT425 mowing the lawn at the bottom of my videos page. They, too, are old, grainy WMV files.

The video told the story. That is all you need.

I keep my eyes out for a used 1460. Never have seen one for sale. Totally agree on it being machine #2

I was sharpening the blades on my mower this morning and noticed that one of the wheels had a lot of wobble in the bearings. I pulled the wheel and found that the axle/bolt had two rings of wear where the wheel bearings rested. I replaced the bolt and it was much better. I wonder if this hurt my mowing quality. The wear was about 1/8 inch deep at each end.

We're still talking about the rear wheel, yes?

If so, I doubt the wobble would hurt your quality of cut going forward. However, if the wheel locked up on the bolt/axle and was skidding along, or skidding in turns when side pressure was being put on it, well, then yes, it could cause some lawn damage. Good find.

I've thought about this just about every time I mow. If someone has a good solution for the rear casters, I'd also love to hear it.

Moss,
If you could have any new power trac of your choice, at no cost to you, which model would it be ? Disregard your existing attachments. New attachments would accompany the new machine.

I bought a new 425. Then bought a used 1845 and sold the 425 to a neighbor. Then I missed the 425 too much and bought a used one. The 425 is great for about 80 percent of everything an average homeowner will attack. Plus, the attachments are MUCH cheaper.

For the average person, I'd suggest getting the 425 then renting a bigger machine when needed (e.g., track loader or excavator). In my opinion, there's nothing on the market that can match the 425 in overall utility/price/performance.

My 422 finish mower is clumping my grass together. The clumps block the sun light and kill the grass. Would high lift blades help this. It has been wet for a year and this makes the clumping worse. What blade would you recommend?

Amen. Game over. 😛

But seriously, I've said this many times. For an average home owner, small estate owner, that doesn't want multiple machines to store and maintain, the PT425 is a sweet spot.

I don't need pulling power, so brute torque to the tires isn't necessary.

Has anyone experienced the finish mower rear wheels damaging the grass on turns? Have you done anything about it? With all the rain we have had the ground is soft and the damage seems worse this year.

I removed them and chucked them up in a lathe and rounded the edges with large radius, it helped a lot.... Wet ground.... it's a poor set up, you need a weight transfer system.... one more thing you can't run caster wheels because the deck runs too close to the tractor..... jim
