Yes, it does very slowly bleed down with the engine running, or not!

That's OK as long as I don't take a nap under it!!

con: Hydraulic Oil Leak

Problem: The Reducer that connects the Hydraulic Oil Thermo Switch to the Hydraulic Oil Cooler was not properly tightened at the factory. Hydraulic Oil has leaked out into the engine compartment and into the Thermo Switch itself causing it to malfunction!

Solution: I installed a Jumper to bypass the Termo Switch, and have been running the Hydraulic Oil Cooler Fan continuously.
The engine compartment must be cleaned, the Hydraulic Oil Cooler removed from the Engine Cover, the fittings disassembled, and reassembled, after applying Teflon Tape to the threads of the fittings.
A messy, but not too difficult rainy afternoon job!
I will order a replacement Thermo Switch, under warranty, from Power Trac.

applying Teflon Tape
I, too usually use the tape, but I've seen a lot of warnings to use liquid sealant instead. Less chance of a bit of tape getting somewhere bad.

I've seen several warnings about teflon tape and hydraulics, too.

Oh no!!!

I have a brush-on thread sealing compound called LA-CO Slic-tite paste with teflon. It's recommended services include: gasoline, LP, oils, refrigerant, caustics, acids, water, gas, steam, and air on steel, aluminum, brass, and PVC at pressures up to 10,000 psi and -50F to +500F.

Do you think this would be a better choice than the teflon tape??

Or, should I just go back to:

Is it recommended for reinstallling champagne corks?

Re: PT-425 PROS & cons??

The brush-on paste would be the prefered choice.

David & Charlie,

"" warnings about teflon tape ""

Thanks for the warnings and advice!

However, the loose fitting needed to be tightened an extra quarter turn, but could not be turned one more complete turn.

After applying several wraps of Teflon tape, the fitting could be fully tightened, but with the hose connection in it’s proper original position.

The fitting is about 1/2” long. By applying the Teflon tape only to the outer 3/8” of the fitting, the tape does not contact the hydraulic fluid, and no pieces of tape can get loose inside the fitting.

Mission accomplished - leak stopped!!
