PT-425 PTO Not Starting

oh and replacing the battery for me is pulling the gas tank off, then snake it up and out through there.
I remember when PJ got his PT425 and the layout was different than mine. Mine has the engine in the middle, tram pump in front, PTO and Steering/AUX PTO in back. Battery off to right/rear side. Fuel tank over the tram pump.

PJ's had the engine in the rear and all 3 pumps towards the front. Battery up there, too. The more I thought about it, the more I liked that setup, but then several folks had some issues with the home-grown mufflers VS mine with the stock Kohler muffler.

All in all, though, all the setups have their pros and cons. Bottom line is probably "Would you purchase again?" knowing then what you know now.

Would definitely purchase again in a heartbeat!

If it were me with the buried battery, I might weld a battery box in somewhere more accessible. @Husker34 I think if you made a plate that bolted on left/right/bottom, you would get a lot of the rigidity and strength back, or reinforce the floor and side wall, and bolt a bar or tube to the left side to transfer forces there. I think that there are lots of possible solutions. I think someone here re-did the hitch to a 2x2 tube fastened on both sides, but my searching isn't finding it. (@BobRip?)

All the best,

Peter

Yes, you could build a battery box inside the current location to provide support and then slide the battery in and out as needed. That sounds like work. 🤣

I was thinking along the lines of moving the battery to somewhere accessible, but, hey, it's your battery that is buried under the muffler, and once in seven years isn't that bad.

YMMV....

All the best,

OK

I could build a battery box inside the current location to provide support and then slide the battery in and out as needed. That still sounds like work. :)
