Find yourself an old Honda Trail 50 and strap it to the engine cover! :D

Sorry, not productive, but still a fun thought. Kind of like a dinghy on a yacht. ;)

Brilliant Idea !!!!

I would temporarily bypass the low oil sender and see if it starts . The sender only kills the ignition power , the engine will still crank . The sender could be faulty .

It's a diesel... ;)

I meant ignition power to the fuel cut off solenoid .

Being the idiot I am, where would I find this on a Deutz 1011 engine? What should I be looking for. I have wondered if something like this is the issue...

Good to know there's at least two of us.

I'd look for something with a wire attached that's in your fuel system between the fuel tank and where it get squirted into the cylinders.

The electrical path from the key switch goes to the terminal connector board behind the instrument panel and then via the wiring harness through the tunnel back to the terminal connector located in a box on the right hand side of the engine. from the box it then goes to a plug on the left hand side of the engine. From the plug on the engine it goes to the solenoid located on the left hand side of the engine. There is a nice wiring diagram on John Coxon's (Sedgewood) Wiki. While John's diagram is for the 1845 I believe that the 1850 is very similar.

The electrical diagram I have, I was referring to the whatever sensors / fuel pumps and their location on the deutz...

The one funny thing about this is that Terry said next time it happens, just wiggle the wiring harness to see if it fixes the issue. That is not the funny thing, the funny thing is that the lid on the 1850 engine weighs hundred (s) of pounds. The thing is a herniator. Put it on a slope, going downhill. Man am I going to be bent...

Boy is there something hinky with my PT. I am NOT going to dive into this one...

On the electrical chart, it shows a green wire handling fuel control...

Surprise, my green wire is cut. Now it gets interesting. When I change my filter and have to release the air from the pump, I can start the engine with this plug pulled...

Well, this is now a winter project.. When I replace the motor mounts... Not going to try and figure this thing out now...

If the green wire is cut, but you can shut the engine off by turning the key to off, another wire must be operating the fuel control solenoid because it is stopping the flow of fuel that shuts a diesel off. Of course figuring it out may be difficult
