Once they did away with clubs and loincloths, I was done. The less technology, the better....

Eventually I am going to have to pull the engine and rebuild it. Altough even with the bit ot cylinder scarring, it is running like a top. So not sure if /when it will ever happen.

Anyway, my plan is to completely rewire the PT based on the design that someone did a number of years ago. My cousin is a pre-eminent ship repairman (he repairs luxury yachts) and has access to all sorts of waterproof wiring and switches. My plan is to make a whole new panel as well, and streamline the wiring. All new guages and switches, including seperate hydraulic and engine temp guages.

Several folks have suggested using marine-grade electrical components and I am beginning to see why.

I am with you on this. I prefer not thinking about routine things. You can find automotive ones that have a bare sensor. I have just put them against a line and put a layer of adhesive rubber over it. You could even do it with one of the screw in ones- just make sure that you have enough insulation on it so it is measuring the oil temp.

I have even used really really cheap oven monitors to make temperature controllers. (Not on a tractor!)

And two thumbs up on marine wiring! Everything is sealed, waterproof and used to taking a beating. More of the do it once philosophy...

All the best, Peter

When mine failed it fried a bunch of wiring too. I'm not looking forward to removing and replacing that all again if/when I loose another disk. I like the idea of the automotive style switch, but I'm not particularly interested in drilling and tapping my oil cooler to install it, Unless there is a removable plug somewhere that i'm not seeing.
