I'll get in there with the air hose too. I have a friend with a Deutz-powered ag tractor and he said that the temp gauge barely ever comes off the "cold" peg, even when doing some heavy bailing. That riser mod is definitely on the short list!

Those Deutz AG tractor engines are a whole other level. Deutz makes ag specific oil coolers and cylinders for them. PT uses the non-ag coolers. (I think because they are cheaper and smaller) The ag coolers have close to 5/8 between channels with no metal fillers. So they tend to be BIG. I have used those things with an 1/8 of dust on them no problem, and really never seen the needle get beyond the low end of normal. I once ran one for a week 24x7, providing backup power. (The first 48 hours at 2500rpm, the rest of the time at about 1000- way quieter. And yes, we refueled it warm. When you can put your hand on the muffler, the ignition risk is close to zero.) We would clean the tractor perhaps once a year.

I loved those Deutz AG tractors. They were 15% more efficient than the water cooled competitors, and ran like tanks. Just too tippy for where I live now...

All the best,

Peter

P.S. you can retrofit an ag cooler, but fit will be an issue. I looked into it years ago. You would need to move the hydraulic cooler, and fabricate some cooling ductwork. I decided it was not that big a deal for me.

Mine runs at 200 when everything is normal. I keep an eye on it and if it rises to 220 I call it a day -- that's usually a clue that a) it's pretty hot out and b) my ducts need cleaning. No mods. I use one of those cheap air cleaners like the links above. I also blow air through the generator (which is immediately to the right/rear when you have that shroud off). I fried a generator a few years ago and discovered it was completely filthy inside when I replaced it. And don't forget that air cleaner -- another source of load on the engine. And the fins on the oil-cooling radiator that's mounted on the cover.
